What's your take? Favorite parts:
1. Keith's opening verse of 'Salt of the Earth.' The song starts out so earnest and then you see him and Mick reading the lyrics off of a sheet of paper.
2. Yoko's yelling. Oh my.
3. Eric Clapton's overplaying on everything.
4. The apparently impromptu violin/blues jam.
5. Tony Iommi subbing for Martin Burre for Jethro Tull's set!

Keef - "Dig The Who!"

Black Arkestra (Black Arkestra), Sunday, 13 February 2005 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The look on the violin players face during Yoko's wailing is priceless! Clapton is starting to laugh but gets all serious when he realises the camera is on him.

The Velvet Overlord (The Velvet Overlord), Sunday, 13 February 2005 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Toni Iommi jumpin in was great, agreed.

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Sunday, 13 February 2005 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

what is this?

Nic de Teardrop (Nicholas), Sunday, 13 February 2005 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The Iommi thing was because he had actually joined the band at that point! Yes, Iommi had left the incipient Black Sabbath for a bit -- now how might history have been different if that gig became permanent...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 February 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The Stones were absolutely right to try to bury this - The Who blew them off the face of the map.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Sunday, 13 February 2005 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Stewart OTM- in this case the legend is true.

Isn't there a scary shot of a grinning Brian sitting in the audience swaying back and forth during "Salt of The Earth" where he basically looks like one of them?

Ken L (Ken L), Sunday, 13 February 2005 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The Keef lyric sheet and Yoko entrance are indeed very classic. I'd agree with Keith Moon more if Roger Daltrey didn't keep blocking the view.

Probably my favorite clip of the Who ever.

Jazzbo, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 15:30 (seventeen years ago)

i think it probably is, though, mark, given the lyrics of 'lets have a smile for an old engine driver'... i mean, its not explicit, but there are hints of the menacing sexuality of, say, cousin kevin or uncle ernie from Tommy.

and yeah, best rock clip ever.

The Who is insane in this.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 13 January 2009 15:41 (seventeen years ago)

does jagger pull off his top to reveal some kind of crazy painting on his chest during 'sympathy for the devil' or have i just imagined that?
