Got lots of Northern Soul, which is all great.

Soft Cell is the only electronic Northern Soul band i can think of.

Anyone know any other Northern Soul that was done with electronic instruments??

Or covers of Northern Soul with electronic stuff?

Cheers

Leila's "won't you be my baby, baby" sung by Luca Santucci - one of my favourite songs of all time!

Can we count Japan's two Motown covers - not northern soul I know, but...

What about Saint Etienne ? A large part of their output is flecked with hefty dollops of northern soul - "Nothing Can Stop Us", "The Bad Photographer", "You're In A Bad Way", "Girl VII", loads more...

"Hit The Brakes" is a great St Etienne soul stomper.

not particularly electronic but the bees "chicken payback" is a great recent NS pastiche.

Sub Sub- Ain't no love? Though it's more seventies than sixties. Obviously the current Doves single (and much of the album) is more than a little, er, informed by Northern. A (Mancunian) friend of mine, who loves his House, swears that it took so long for Mancs to get disco that by the time house came along no one save hacks and djs noticed it was anything new. (As a soft southerner who didn't grow up going to Manchester discotheques I have no opinion on this)

Heaven 17 "Temptation"?

Good call that one.

The Human League had bits and pieces of a nothern soul influence in many of their electronic pop songs. There's that beat in Mirror Man, and of course the melody and words to 'Don't You Want Me'.

How about All Seeing I? Didn't they have a crack at some electronic Nothern Soul?

not a fan in the slightest but i guess bronski beat could fit in here.

and i third 'temptation'.

Jed, could you possibly post an mp3 of "won't you be my baby, baby" sung by Luca Santucci? It is unfindable on Ssk & Emule and I am very keen to hear it.

I have a CD of electronic sounfing northern soul tracks that i piched up cheapo somewhere, thinking it was a proper northern soul comp. I think it was called 'keep the faith' or something like that, although i haven't listened to it for a while.

i have a feeling that it mgiht have been made by ian levine, which would sort of make sense, as he went off to make hi-nrg tracks at some point...

Affectian, i sent that track - always happy to spread the gospel on that one.

Steve Grant - "Run for cover" (drells cover, Levine production, very weird)

Wigan's Ovation - "northern soul dancer" b-side to "skiing in the snow", execrable moog-y cash-in.

Some other moog tunes on the Spark label "pepper pot" or something like that. Actually quite good.

Stazi's "Love is lethal," which is clearly the bastard child of "Tainted love."
