then you just bring in your tech person every once in a while, if there's a big change or something. but routine little additions and news stuff can be set up so it's really easy for you to do it yourself. it would take you as long to add some new distro news as it would be to email your tech geek that same info.
i'd offer cause i love doing geek stuff for records, but... m.

NOW who can do this for me (what msp describes above)?

Do you have a place to host the website?
If you just want some nice looking, simple, text based pages, I can create that for you. I don't know what a fair rate is (yes, one should never say that), but let me know what you had in mind, if you're still looking for someone to do this. It would most likely only take me a few hours. Simple.

i don't have a place to host the site as it were, but I am 'involved' with several websites (for my label, band, etc) but they're not run by me in any capacity

A few nice looking HTML pages is the part I can handle easily. Once you get into a web-based interface where you put in a username/password, that's a more complicated project for me. However, maybe msp has already done such a project, so he might have a basic version already created, and would just have to modify it to suit you.
At the Typepad site (http://www.sixapart.com/typepad/) you can sign up for your own blog at a cost of $4.95/month, and they host it, so it will go live immediately and you won't have to pay for your own web host. And updating it is just a matter of putting in your username and password and adding new entries. No coding required. You can do a month trial for free. Maybe that would work?

The issue with a blog-style template is.. well, either you sign up for a service that hosts your site and has software already set up to let you do easy updates without writing HTML code, or you get your own web host and you have someone set up a site with all this back-end stuff that has a nice administrative interface to use for your updates. Again, I don't know what msp had in mind..
Tell me why do you have to go and make things so complicated?...

my idea of a perfect user interface circa 1988:
c:\>
yeah... typepad would probably be a great way to go... can you register a domain to point to your install?
all i basically had in mind to do is install moveable type, get the templates looking non-blog but more in line with something appropriate to what he's doing.
i didn't really mean to step in with my "did you get my email?" post. kind of a blunder there. [insert smiley here.]
if roger wants movable type, i could help you install it. not a problem at all. (it's nice to use my powers for good.) depending on where it's hosted, it'd probably be no trouble. and then you could make it look like it needs to. etc.
or even if you want to do it yourself and just need someone to bug if you might run into trouble, by all means...
just let me know.m.
