Oldie recommendations

A couple weeks ago, the display on my car radio burned out. Since then, I've kept the dial on the local oldies station which I was listening to when it went out, fearing I would never be able to find one of the two decent local stations ever again.
Anyway, I've taken quite a liking to a lot of the styles of guitar playing i've been hearing, yet my oldie-ignorant self doesn't really know know who these bands are. Do you guys have any suggestions of good pre-Beatles rock and roll with wicked awesome guitar work?

I'd say

"Hello Mary Lou" by Ricky Nelson
"Rumble" by Link Wray
"That's All Right" by Elvis Presley
"Walk Don't Run" by the Ventures
"Let's Go Trippin'" by Dick Dale
"Rebel Rouser" by Duane Eddy

constitutes a pretty good jumping off point

Eddie Cochran - seconded! And if you go for Gene Vincent, make sure it's with his original Blue Caps line-up.

I've taken a liking to The Mills Brothers recently, but they might even be too old for oldies stations.

Cliff Gallup's breaks on Vincent's "B-I Bickey-Bi Bo Bo Go" may be the greatest guitar solos of all time.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs... however not much guitar.

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ike Turner's instrumentals, which I don't think oldies programmers are, uh, aware of.

edd s hurt (ddduncan), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)
