The new Gorillaz white label....

...is, oddly enough, pretty damn good. Dangermouse production, Pharcyde vocals, no trace of Albarn. No Fatlip either, but they do all right without him. Here's hoping the album will actually be worth bothering with this time around instead of a couple decent singles and heaps of filler.

i hate the rapping but the instrumental lead-up is fucking INCREDIBLE.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 03:40 (twenty years ago)

i really want to hear this

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

Get it here.

Telephonething, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

hmmmm i must say i liked it

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

that bumping spangly electro bit and the axelrod-sounding choir section are great. they deserve to be the basis of a much better track.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

No trace of Albarn? Isn't that him doing falsetto in the first few seconds?

mike h. (mike h.), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

sounds like him, yeah.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:46 (twenty years ago)

*listens again*

So it is. Oops. At least he doesn't "rap."

Telephonething, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

Not as good as Adam F's "Dirty Harry," I'll say that merch.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 05:42 (twenty years ago)

There should be mandatory stickering of cds: "No Trace of Albarn."

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 06:11 (twenty years ago)

"No Gorillaz were Albarn in the making of this record"

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

How are you guys not hearing Albarn's falsetto at the beginning of this song?

Sansai, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

I, er, shoot elephants for a living. At the zoo. Which has rendered me unable to hear high-pitched bleats, whines or squeals of any sort. Yeah, that's it.

(It's not that I was half-paying attention, oh no. That's impossible.)

Telephonething, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Yes, but where is the new Godzilla white label?

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

Why, I got one from the label yesterday. There were only five pressed in the world, and they weigh five hundred pounds and the intense radiation is giving me cancer, but I AM ONE OF TEH SELECT FEW!

I would tell you what it sounds like but my ears appear to have fallen off.

Telephonething, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

no trace of Albarn ...is, oddly enough, pretty damn good.

everyprimalscreamsongwithoutbobbygillespieonit, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

I believe the white-label only has Booty Brown on it, yes?

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

the single you guys are talking about (dirty harry) isn't quite representative of the rest of the album. Dangermouse kills it, productionwise, on several of the tracks, and it's faster tempo than this single. It'll be better than the first one, that's for sure.

robot mark (robot mark), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
THIS IS THE SINGLE OF THE YEAR.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 3 March 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

BARMS, Thursday, 3 March 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

djangojones (djangojones), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
was this DIRTY HARRY?

piscesboy, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 09:49 (twenty years ago)

yup.

Still my single of the year so far.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

but...it's not been a single has it?

but yeah single of the year when it is!

i noticed how short each track on the lp is last night.
as in 'to the point' not 'not long enough'.
