Wowsers! I didn't even know this movie existed. Now I'm excited!

Magic City (ano ano), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The movie veers wildly between the sublime and the ridiculous, often both at the same time and therefore all the better for it. The "Some people love to rock" exchange between Marc and Ringo is so wonderfully wrong, but nothing beats the proto MTV Unplugged Garden Party sequence where they play a medley while nuns eat hamburgers.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet! Get it On is only my favorite rock song ever...

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i read about this movie like a million years ago in some beatles book but i'd forgot about it until now! i can't wait!!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I almost dread this release, 'cause I've finally be able to die happy.

briania (briania), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll. Too early for contractions this morning.

briania (briania), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It's about time. The VHS release has been impossible to find for ages. Those extra concerts seem almost too good to be true.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Saw most of this on Finnish tv and was truly dumbfounded. Looking forward to seeing it again. The live stuff was much better than expected.

Guymauve (Guymauve), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The updates on the borntoboogie.net site about all the work they put in to finding the original film negatives and multitracks and all that are good fun. Tony Visconti handled all the remastering of the sound, so that should be great!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah, I mentioned the Visconti thing twice now. Oh well, I'm that excited. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool, one more for rock DVD library I'm amassing.

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

why no ringo commentary?

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i just saw a huge billboard with Tony Visconti on the West Side. think it was for mutual funds or something. the tag only mentions him as David Bowie's producer though.
who is releasing this movie? eating the side mirror is classick.

Ergotnaut, Wednesday, 16 February 2005 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Sanctuary is putting this out.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
Less than a month to go, though US release won't be until early June, fiddle. Oh well, guess I'll wait. New Mojo has a cover story about T. Rex and the film, and there's a good-enough-but-not-hyper-great interview with many folks behind the DVD here -- too much of it restates promo hash or says nothing beyond, 'wow, cool,' but the bits from Visconti and Rolan Bolan are of interest.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 April 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

what's the deal with this? did ringo somehow direct a movie about marc bolan or something and i never knew?

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 16 April 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

That's exactly what he did, m'friend. And you never knew? Well, time to learn!

http://www.borntoboogie.net

Just go there and read up on everything.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 April 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

i am amazed and delighted.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 16 April 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

:-) I will be v. much interested in your reactions to the film, it is the definition of a weird and wiggy curio.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 April 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Anyone want to trade T-Rex mpgs? I've got a list I've compiled from downloads slsk, kazaa, winmx, way back to the Napster days. I've been looking everywhere for the full version of "Dreamy Lady", the one where he looks like Robert Smith and he starts it by laying on a star-shaped platform with lights on it. I found a rip once but it got cut off.

Oh, and any performances of "Mad Donna" too. Luv that Tanx.

Adam Bruneau (oliver8bit), Saturday, 16 April 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

four weeks pass...
Some more news and updates given tomorrow's UK/Euro release date. A slew of photos from promo events, including a number of Gloria Jones with Rolan B. She's still got that killer smile, bless her! Visconti looks good too, but as I noted on another thread, though, Robert Plant looks...odd.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

You guys would know!

Which CD was it recently that had the 'long' versions of the T-Rex singles? You know, the ones that fade out on the seven inch, "20th Century Boy" and all those?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 16 May 2005 07:51 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Threw down $23 for it and I'm so glad i did. Id had a bootleg copy of it before but the quality of this is pitch perfect, and the extas are sooo worth it. The two complete concerts are a thrill to have but the video of Tyrannosaurus playing "Sarah Crazy Child" is mouth wateringly beautiful. If anyone has found any Easter Eggs please post them!

Also, is it me or were there Gloria Jones backing vocals in the original mix of the film? They're nowhere to be found and I distinctly remember hearing "Baby Strange" and thinking that live they brought the song to new girl-group heights! Perhaps Im mistaken...

Adam Bruneau (oliver8bit), Friday, 24 June 2005 07:10 (twenty years ago)

No, Gloria didn't happen along until the Zip-gun boogie album, where she appears on some (three?) tracks, the ones with no Mickey.

My previous question still stands, by the way...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 24 June 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
Finally got this. :-) (Mark -- I alas have no answer to your question...)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

And more on this tomorrow but for now, here's the Easter egg info.
