No Andrew Brough, so it's not really a reunion, but, y'know, here it is.

but they went downhill fast without him. dimmer is silly.

I think there's a not-so-small contingent of folks on this board that might disagree (including this silly dope w/ both Dimmer full-lengths in his SmokeCD.com shopping cart).

whatever, shayne carter as prince is silly. they were awesome when I saw them live but then robbie yeats left the band.

keith m (keithmcl), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean 'melt' and 'hail' were amazing and i love them but i bet he'll play loads of stuff off of blow like 'cat inna can' and 'if i were you' and everyone will cringe.

Favourite Straitjacket Fits moment: Andrew Brough stopping the gig for five minutes because he had to go to the toilet. Plus announcing it to the audience.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

does shayne carter still have his cool cheekbones? he totally should have been a huge rock star, he was talented and he looked cool.

keith m (keithmcl), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 04:57 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, he does. also I bet the tickets to this will be ridiculously overpriced & the audience will be full of fuckwits.

etc, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I guess we won't get a doublehappys reunion, will we? it'd be nice if shayne dragged peter jefferies out of hermit-dom/depression, tho.

etc, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

dimmer get a bit unfairly hated on by indykidz here (haha liam finn of betchadupa - "To me Dimmer just sounds like Shayne Carter trying to be Marvin Gaye, but he's left out all the Marvin. He sounds really gay."), tho to be fair all the gushing from the listener/nzherald sorta puts me off too. if only it wasn't so copy-protected & unavailable on slsk, I could give it a fair go!

etc, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

actually the tickets aren't too bad... NZ$35 for akl and wel, $28 for chch and i believe the dunedin one is free (radio one's birthday party)

chris andrews (fraew), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
haha so I'm probably caving in & getting a ticket before tomorrow night's gig. d!d!d! support!

etc, Wednesday, 20 April 2005 05:53 (twenty years ago)

Please report back. I'm in America and never saw them play, except on the Conan O'Brien show.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 06:03 (twenty years ago)

I think Peter's doing Ok, Etc, it's nice yr concerned tho (saw him play a couple years ago, he did "Uncle Fucker" (as in the South park song ho ho), noone realised, just kept looking intensely at him, I've prob told this "story" before).

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Now *that's* comedy.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

you haven't, a! th0m from y0kel 0n0 visited him a year or so ago back home (palmy? the 'naki?) & was apparently v.depressed & nothing-I've-done-is-any-good. yr story's fucking great, tho.

Straitjacket Fits - "Flex" (JPS Experience cover, from Roger Sings The Hits

etc, Thursday, 21 April 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

A lesson learned from The Straitjacket Fits: Doom will be upon you if you release a terrible record and title it "Blow."

Can't complain about Hail & Melt, though.

Yngwie AlmsteenMay (sgertz), Thursday, 21 April 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

Ooooer. Great two songs to open with, plus ending with a fucking intense version of "Dialling A Prayer" . . .

Burn It Up
APS
Train
Bad Note For A Heart
Way
Missing Presumed Drowned
Headwind
Melt Against Yourself
She Speeds
Done
????
Dialling A Prayer

encore:
If I Were You
Cast Stone

"We're now going to play some songs off our much maligned third album . . . much maligned by us, that is."
"It was fine until the americans got hold of it."

etc, Thursday, 21 April 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

Pfft they seemed to like it FINE at the time (fuckin Stalinists), so did everyone esle, I thought it was pretty boring (JPSE "Bleeding Star" ws the one to get). Man, that's a bummer about PJ. This one other guy in the audience w/me relaised too, we kept giggling (I was stoned so I could hardly believe it). In fairness to everyone else he did segue it in from some other song, and sung it just as "torturedly" as his usual stuff, so I can see the problem. Interesting, tho, that they couldn't see such an obv joke, or maybe think about it and the fact he seemed as serious about it as anything else he performed, or um maybe they were just a bunch of pretentious non TVwatching indiedorks.
