karl76 (karl76), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

are you serious?

splooge (thesplooge), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Dizzee Rascal never really understood grime.

Paul de Man, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

don't be silly, this song is genius! that skittering beat! it's based on Snow White!

You lot hate fun. Dizzee doesn't.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

also:} I can gmail, tonight, should people wish to hear Dizzee interpolating 'hi ho! hi ho! it's off to work we go!'

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

nah, this is crappy!

splooge (thesplooge), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

didn't the Ying Yang Twins already do this with "Whistle While you Twerk"?

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

So he's embracing the slagging cries of "schoolyard rhymes", then?

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

SENT, Y'ALL! enjoy!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh dude, I like this! It's weird though, all cartoony and haha style. The stop/start-ness of the beat could make for some interesting drunken falling down while attempting to dance spectacles.

I think I'd get a better feel for this track by listening to it first thing in the morning when I've just woke up, and it seems that much more frantic.

known vaginatarian (nickalicious), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

As a single though, I don't know.

known vaginatarian (nickalicious), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Alex!

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh and THANK YOU MUCH A LOT LEXI!

known vaginatarian (nickalicious), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

This song makes me want to play air hockey!

known vaginatarian (nickalicious), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it's not bad but it's really a single? From reading above and on Dissensus I was expecting much worse.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

the single was going to be "Graftin'" but that's ended up as the b-side (or maybe double a-side, I dunno) (and "Graftin'" seems an equally bizarre choice of single too)

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Alex!

I quite like it too, it's definitely as catchy as his other singles.

Patrick Allan (adr), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

This is good, too.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

someone email me pleeeez

Shmool McShmool (shmuel), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

pierre (the rock n roll nigga), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

i really like it! thanks alex.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

schmool and pierre, if no one's sent it by tonight I can send it out again.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

i'd love to get it as well but if it's too much work... don't worry about it. :-)

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Jesus wept this is fucking abysmal.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

Graftin' seems like an insane choice for a single, fairly glad it was dropped. Evidently someone's having trouble promoting Dizzee as a singles artist, although I thought both Fickle and Everywhere would make great singles, maybe even Girls.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

"Girls" and "Everywhere" were my thoughts too! odd, because they got the BIDC singles just right.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Fickle, Girls, Everywhere, even fucking IMAGINE as singles WAY before EITHER of these, wtf?

known vaginatarian (nickalicious), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Adam, where did that track come from? It's, um, beautiful! I love when Dizzee goes all dramatical-like.

known vaginatarian (nickalicious), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Can someone send this to me please?

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I saw a video for Graftin' on MTV Base a few weeks back, though - I seem to remember it was a Dizzee + crew looking hard in black and white type video...

M Carty (mj_c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

Adam, where did that track come from?

Apparently it is called "Win" but it was known around here as the "mystery Roll Deep track". Martin was trying to get it onto Run The Road!

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

I listened to this before going off to work this morning. I like it!

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

shmool, pierre, stevie, nicole - just sent it to you.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

thank you the lex!

Shmool McShmool (shmuel), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

send this to rollie, please.

i quite like graftin' but don't see it as a single. maybe the 'street' single, the way rappers in the US put out their streetwise single first with a video and vinyl and then drop a more commercial track.

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Thursday, 17 February 2005 08:42 (twenty years ago)

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Friday, 18 February 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

i'm fine. thanks. and why the fuzz? what's the difference between this and the rest of his work?

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Friday, 18 February 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

The skiffle-esque guitar!

haha this is the grime "Love Machine".

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 19 February 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

This isn't that bad but not exactly storming - gets better as both the beat and Dizzee's flow build up. That mystery track, though, is GORGEOUS. If Dizzee insists on going, ack, IDM, then this is definitely the road he should be going down rather than Off To Work.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 19 February 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

Got the YouSendIt. It's stilted, I fucking love his style of chopping here, the echoed snare is hot as shit. I seriously expected to hate this for some reason, it sounded like a lame idea. This is a single though? Pretty minimalist.

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Saturday, 19 February 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Lex was g-mailin' me grime trax ALL TRU DA NIGHT holmes, what you say?

That he was just using you.

This is OK - I like the bounciness. Something about it is a little arch and forced. I don't love Dizzee like his ILX contingent by any means, but I'm not impressed either way. It's like he tried to strip down 'I'm Really Hot' and went for 'lukewarm'.

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Saturday, 19 February 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

dis tune iz over sik. man likes to play wiv boarzers u get me but its soundin swag now man. yeaaaa blut, u kno datz a tune. i fink i heard dat a while bk azwell, but still gonna b massive truss. sikkk tune even tho i dnt kno wt hes on about. proppa hope dis shit catches on to the ppl outta da underground scene. big ups.

Momus (Momus), Saturday, 19 February 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

respek

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Saturday, 19 February 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Momus, I will actually buy one of your albums if you promise to never, ever do that again.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Saturday, 19 February 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

(also, this track is by no even remotely rational definition of the word "crap". It is rudeboy espionage Lotus Elan chase music and that's super with me.)

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Saturday, 19 February 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

oh no! Momus's account has been haxxored by Jerry The Nipper!

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Saturday, 19 February 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
the remix is much better IMO.

goglyfines (goglyfines), Saturday, 12 March 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

his voice horrible.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 12 March 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

I love this. Reminds me of the Rhythmic Phonetics mix of Alarm Call (and that's my highest praise, last arrow in the quiver, hi Drew!)

I wasn't sure where his production style was going after Showtime; I feel a lot better now.

Lukas (lukas), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

i like it now. it's the 'Police Officer' of the 00s.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 17 March 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

Can someone gmail me an mp3 of the remix?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 17 March 2005 00:52 (twenty years ago)

I could if I was at home.

MVP (nordicskilla), Thursday, 17 March 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

Is it much better, Adam?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 17 March 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

I haven't heard it yet.

MVP (nordicskilla), Thursday, 17 March 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

DJ Semtex / Dizzee Rascal 'Dirtee Stank' mixtape. Awful quality, though.
