Michael Jackson - You Rock My World

This song is a pop conundrum. It seems simple enough at first, but there's some weird-ass phrasing in this song and I honestly think it's questionable where "1" is. I hear the bassline starting at one spot, but then the bridge seems like it comes in on the wrong part of the bar. Other people in my band hear the bassline starting on a different spot, but I have a really hard time hearing the bass and melody in that way.

It's a great song, but it's really disturbing me at the moment.

Also how icky is Michael in that Chris Tucker intro?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

This song is kind of icky, but I ended up liking it against my better judgement.

A bit off the subject, but I wonder what the deal is w/him getting admitted to the emergency room today.

Anyone see Corey Feldman "speaking out" about Jacko on 20/20 last week? It was kind of pathetic.

darin (darin), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

Pfft. What did he say, exactly?

The song, meanwhile, nyurgh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

He claimed that MJ showed him pornography on a couple of occasions. Also, said Michael threatened his life when he became paranoid that Corey was going to write a book about him (duh - he was only going to oust him on national tv!). Anyway, the worst parts were due to:

1) the interviewer was the same British journalist who did that special from a few years back

2) they kept showing footage of Corey working on his new album and playing clips of his songs which reeked of self-promotion

3) and there were tons of cut away shots of Feldman wearing a sweater, looking forlorn, and sitting under a tree

darin (darin), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

Was it the Tree of Knowledge?

Setting in Motion the Wheel of the Dork

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

yeah the interview consisted of martin "witchhunta" bashir snakecharmingly oozing a vague belated accusation out of a weirdly de-eyebrowed corey feldman.

this song is very unconvincing.

jones (actual), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

I don't even remember the song that well but the video is classic for Marlon Brando's line: "guh."

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

"weirdly" is redundant when followed by "de-eyebrowed corey feldman."

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

it's hard for me to choose who is more hate-able - Corey or Michael...

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

consider that michael is to blame for what corey became

But who's to answer for the OTHER Corey?

Whoever is now paying him 50 cents for a handjob?

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Because he would eventually grow up to sell his teeth.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

DAMN YOU I WAS ABOUT TO POST THAT.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

but, to get back on track (this being ILM and all), the video stars Billy Drago. A guy I went to film school with got Drago to be in a short film after graduation. I think that's badass.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

can't help you out on the bassline but i do know that i don't get tired of that song. not because it's insanely good but just because it's innocuosly pleasant.

Wookie Rookie, Wednesday, 16 February 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I got the piano book for ten bucks off Amazon and I was right about how I was hearing this song. The first two beats of the tune are pickups though, and there is a 2/4 bar directly before and directly after the bridge that make things sound off. Just FYI, you know.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 25 February 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
The first moments of this song with MJ and Chris Tucker might be the most awkward moments of anything, ever.
