Hello all, I'm visiting NYC for the weekend (Feb 18-20) and I was wondering if anybody knew of anything interesting music-wise going on, be they DJ gigs, concerts, etc. Thanks for the help.

I'm going to see a band called Switch at the Trash Bar Friday night. Electropop cuties who do a mean cover of the Beatles' "The Word."

I'm also going to see the Jefferson Starship Sunday night if I have time, but I doubt that's of interest to anyone on the ILM board. :)

Try these search engines:

Bigger venues: www.pollstar.com

Smaller venues: www.ohmyrockness.com

Hope this helps.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

http://www.cardozo.yu.edu/cms/uploadedFiles/FLOERSHEIMER/DERRIDAAMERICA.pdf = jealous bitches.

america doesn't care, so the fuck what? stop wetting your pants about it. america doesn't care about lots of good things. stop acting like the rebellious teenager ready to piss dad off. it's embarassing.

"in the end Derrida was perceived more as a threat than a promise" = good god man, get out of 7th fucking grade. the sex pistols weren't really all that cool!

i've thought about it, but why should i be ashamed i'm still in school? it gives me some kind of identity on here at least. "Oh, don't listen to that kid." It's all good. They'll take it away from me soon enough, anyway.

plus friday nite is about matos anyway.

eh? what's he doing?

poortheatre (poortheatre), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

An estimate of when Fire in the Kitchen will go on, Stenc? I probably need to see Sam Fuller's "White Dog" at the New School first...

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

don't you see who's on the guest list? (xxxpost)

youn, Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Obviously he hasn't been following this whole thing, youn, or he wouldn't have reacted in the way he did. On the other hand, maybe he would have. Me, I was halfway expecting to see Terry Eagleton's name on that guest list.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

he won't like to hear his name mentioned.

youn, Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Oops, sorry. Maybe somebody should delete that.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

sorry, not him. that was just a precaution in case anyone mentioned the guest by name. how embarrassing (for me).

youn, Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

It would cause quite a "commotion."

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Homi Bhabha!!!

(anyway, hee hee, youn, I know who you mean.)

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Bon Savants

I have no idea what this Crash Mansion place is about, but the info for the night is here: http://www.newyorkunderbelly.com

(disclosure - i'm in the bon savs)

KPH, Wednesday, 16 February 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

it's a nightclub built in a brand spankin' new condo building on the bowery. i've never met anyone who has actually been in it.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

New York Underbelly was holding shows in the back room of Plaid, but since Plaid was just sold, they had to move.

cdwill, Wednesday, 16 February 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I went to Crash Mansion way back in August or September to see the Clarks. Very polished, very chrome, very sterilized, it seemed at the time. Not that I minded.

So what's happening with Plaid? I liked the NY Underbelly folks!
