1) Black Sabbath - Trashed WITHOUT A DOUBT NUMBER ONE! Good god, who rhymes Tequilla with Tequilla (I know Ozzy rhymed masses w/ masses in War Pigs, but still) and uses innebriation as a point of rhyme?! Not to mention the awful guitars, terrible vocals by Gillian and the drumming that sounds like a retard hitting a drum machine while having a seizure.

THE REST IN ANY ORDER
2) KISS - The entire Crazy Nights Album... I'm sorry, there is no excuse for this to have ever been made
3) Neil Young - Arc (I love it, yet hate it)
4) Queen - Body Language (I just can't enjoy this song)
5) Iced Earth - Written on the Walls
6) Rolling Stones - Suck on the Juggular
7) Oasis - Something off of Definitely Maybe... hmm, not sure what...
8) Metallica* - Eye of the Beholder This is the first song in the Metallica catalogue that I really dislike, and honestly, after that there's under 10 songs I'd ever like to hear again.
9) Daniel Lavoie - Leaders (Not that anyone knows him or this song)
10) Neil Young - Can't Believe You're Lyin Really this whole album is pretty crappy, but this song irritates the piss out of me.

'Everything I Do' by Bryan Adams. he struck gold with 'Run To You' and 'Summer of '69', but it was all down hill after Robin Hood.

similarly, 'Another Day In Paradise' signalled the beginning of Phil Collins' descent into schmaltz.

I thought this thread would have been more popular.

Shellac - New number order
Mclusky - Clique application form

1. "Revolution" by the Cult - Crap, hippy-drippy wannabe bullshit.
2. "More" by the Sisters of Mercy - just overproduced beyond belief, and shit lyrics.
3. the enitrety of Avenue B by Iggy Pop - self-imposed late-life crisis. Crap.
4. "I Wanna be a Flintstone" by the Screaming Blue Messiahs - a stupid novelty track that became their only hit, allowing history to write them off as "that Flintstones band".
5. "Disco Dancer" by Devo - Just tragic.
6. "God Gave Rock'n'Roll to You" by Kiss - No more "anthems," please.
7. "European Female" by the Stranglers - It's just a bad song.
8. "You'll Never Get to Me" by Killing Joke - Needlessly mawkish and slightly hypocritical.
9. "Ramblin' Rose' by the MC5 - Something about the falsetto has always put me off.
10. "Bring On the Dancing Horses" by Echo & the Bunnymen - the sound of phoning it in.

I can't believe you mention Daniel Lavoie and not "Pape du Rap" easily his worst song ever.

blawa (blawa), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

wrong fsharp
a. because Brian Adams was never good
b. becasue that 'when your gone' tune with lezzer spice was quality.
contradictory statements I know, but hey.

6. "God Gave Rock'n'Roll to You" by Kiss - No more "anthems," please.

This is literally the only Kiss song I like. Partially because of its use in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, partially because it gets me pumped.

Is there an opposite to this thread (POX: Songs you love by artists you normally can't stand)?

Joe (Joe), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

to start with:

Pixies - Space (I Believe In)
New Order - Sub-culture (the 7" re-recorded version)
Smashing Pumpkins - Annie-Dog
Daft Punk - Too Long
Primal Scream - Free
Sonic Youth - Creme Brulee

Neil FC (Neil FC), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

Unskinny Bop - Poison
Come Undone - Duran Duran
American Pie - Madonna
St. Anger - Metallica
Disarm - Smashing Pumpkins
I Would Do Anything For Love etc - Meatloaf

As an aside: There needs to be a thread for Worst covers of songs you normally enjoy. "Bringin' On The Heartache" by Mariah Carey would be #1.

I'm still working on the rest of my picks...

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 17 February 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

eighteen years pass...

The abjectly wretched Beatles:
Yes It Is
You Know My Name (Fuck Off)
This Boy
You Like Me Too Much
She’s a Woman
Only a Northern Song

arguably The Inner Light belongs in here, but that might be more personal taste

I’d be tempted to include What’s the New Mary Jane, but it’s not fair to dunk on a song that the artists recognized should stay unreleased.

then there’s a bunch of gormless filler like
I Don’t Want To Spoil the Party
I’m Happy Just To Dance With You
I’ll Get You
If I Fell
Tell Me What You See
I Need You
What Goes On
Another Girl
When I Get Home
Every Little Thing

Your Mother Should Know starts off ok for what it is, and then obnoxiously repeats itself at excruciating length.

The land of dreams and endless remorse (hardcore dilettante), Sunday, 14 May 2023 21:19 (two years ago)

What makes this tricky is that most artists eventually go through a bad period where I don't actually listen to what they're putting out enough to know which song is their actual worst, as opposed to the worst song from their good period.

Lily Dale, Sunday, 14 May 2023 22:34 (two years ago)

Exactly, I don’t think it really counts to try to identify the worst song on Around the Sun or whatever… I guess I’d say “Oddfellows Local 151” is one of the few R.E.M. songs I truly don’t care for in their pre-1996 era.

Replying 18 years later to a person above, but “Annie-Dog” is one of my absolute favourite songs by Smashing Pumpkins. It’s just gorgeous

Cripes, I didn't take any prisoners on this one.
