New song for download
Dan Treacy has sent in an mp3 of 'I Hope He's Everything You Wanted Me To Be', one of the newly-recorded TVP songs, to make it available for download on the site. Happy to oblige!"

I quite like it. According to someone on another messageboard, "That crap sounds like Keane on heroin." What do you think?

How can it sound like Keane.. it's full of guitars..

I really like it... I only think Dan should get some proper production again, as the recording quality always lets down his songs..

that's awesome. time hasn't moved on at all in the Treacy household/houseboat/cell. it's tuneful and sounds vulnerable, and just a little bit shambolic, just like in the good ol' days. i suspect that better production would be a knife in the heart of the song.

this has brightened up an otherwise terrible day - thank you!

It's a good one! It cheered me up too. Regarding the production, "I Was A Mod Before You Were A Mod" (the most recent one I've got) was about 60% as good as it could've been because of the extreme lo-fi sound - this actually sounds like an improvement. The similarity to the pre-"Up For It" Pastels is pretty striking, however. Can sounding too much like your imitators blight a sparkling return to form?

they (or Dan?) will be hitting the road soon from what i've heard.

playing scotland in april - can't wait!

I look forward to it. They were always a great band to see live.

I saw them in London a couple of months ago. It felt like another night in the legend of the TVPs. I saw them in about 1992 and it was a bit sad, but this felt almost celebratory. Welcome back Dan.

Dan Treacy has kindly provided an mp3 of another new song to be made available on this site. 'My Dark Places' is the title, and it's rather good.

I still haven't got round to getting that '...and they all lived happily ever after' album.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 19:45 (nineteen years ago)

oh god please tour

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

I think I'll always have love for the TVPs. Someone recently linked to an online Swedish tv show which was about Dan. Quite sad, he seems kinda 'damaged'. It opens with him going "I don't give a fuck about music, I couldn't care less about it, I hate music."

all the young children on crack could well be one of the most pathetic and wretched songs i've ever heard in my life

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Sunday, 26 February 2006 01:34 (nineteen years ago)

same as always? i know i'm supposed to love them but the tvps never appealed to me.

keyth (keyth), Sunday, 26 February 2006 02:38 (nineteen years ago)

no, this one is.. oh god words can't describe how stupid and pointless it is.

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Sunday, 26 February 2006 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

Saw them play it live in Edinburgh last year: It was pathetic and wretched, but I thought that WAS the point.

The new album starts off promisingly with "Special Chair" but yeah, "All The Young Children On Crack" sinks it almost immediately, with the subsequent tracks doing little to redeem it.

BUT, I'm listening on and it's pretty nice; just get past the initial weak tracks that seem to be frontloaded on My Dark Places.

The chick from Reckless Records (not the Soul and Dance one) seems to be in the band.
