That's a peculiar thread title.

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

is it called Slotted Spoon?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

more rock than kill the moonlight.

I Heard A Rumor That The New Spoon Leaked

Well it's not a very good spoon then, is it?

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

good one. that joke was the equivalent of a swish. didn't even realize my own pun.

tungsten, Thursday, 17 February 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

so who's got it? no one on the spoon list will admit to having it, especially since they're all fighting about AAC and the legalities of downloading.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 17 February 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

ugh, what insufferable douchebags.

please somebody just make with the username fer chrissakes

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 17 February 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

maybe labels should start sending their promos on vinyl. anyone who has the free time to rip vinyl clearly is up to no good.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 17 February 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

totally.

didn't somebody do that already? send all the promos out on vinyl?

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 17 February 2005 01:08 (twenty years ago)

White Stripes but everyone still had "elephant" before it came out.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 17 February 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 17 February 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)

If anyone is looking for this, I'm uploading it on yousendit right now, I'll put up a link as soon as it finishes.

Matt P, Thursday, 17 February 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

awesome

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 17 February 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, and if you miss that, I'm downloading a copy right now and may or may not be sharing it you know where later tonight.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 17 February 2005 01:41 (twenty years ago)

can you sen me a message in the place that cannot be named, if so, Johnny? We southern folk gotta stick together, I reckon :)

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Thursday, 17 February 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

I posted links to 10 of the 11 tracks from the album here:

Matt P, Thursday, 17 February 2005 05:49 (twenty years ago)

Roger, I added the username you mentioned above, but if you're not signed on it won't do any good, natch.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 17 February 2005 06:53 (twenty years ago)

i didn't download the album, obviously, but i, uh... know a guy who knows Britt and he gave me a copy. yeah, that's what happened. and on three listens i can say that it is brilliant, very Spoon but somehow a bit more musical. stand out is My Mathematical Mind, possibly their best track to date. a 5 minute comparative marathon, swinging between classic Spoon restraint and being a bit noisy and f'ed up.

fsharp (fsharp), Thursday, 17 February 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

I don't know. This album is nice, but it's not even close to being as good as the last two Spoon records. This album feels so much more ordinary to me. Maybe it will grow on me more. I don't know. I loved those last two right away and that hasn't changed.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

I've heard a similar rumour about the new one. ga ga ga ag aagagaa ga.

Drooone, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 03:06 (eighteen years ago)

i heard a new rumor that Spoon are the shittest band ever.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 03:24 (eighteen years ago)

ha yeah, I got it anyway...

Drooone, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

10 points for The Table Is The Table!

Srsly, If 90% of the guitars musicians in Austin vanished over night the music scene here would be so much better... I don't know why this town has such a knack for exporting complete bullshit. Between Spoon and Ghostland, Austin has a whole lot of wack music to answer for.

Display Name, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 03:41 (eighteen years ago)

I heard a rumor that a lot of ILXors have shit taste in music.

Anyway, new album is good - not Kill the Moonlight good, but better than the last one.

darin, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

kill the moonlight was hella boring (why do people think this is their best record? fuck that piano ballad bullshit), this one is about seventy times better. my fave since sneaks, i think.

pretzel walrus, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

(parenthetical this = kill)

pretzel walrus, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

KtM had piano ballads?

Jordan, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

"fisk" is the only energetic thing on there!

pretzel walrus, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

The first five tracks have tons of energy, they're just not overtly fast or loud (Small Stakes is esp. ridic in this way)?

Jordan, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

yeah it just seems like their dullest album to me and i don't get why it's the one that broke them. that said, the new one is really good, and i think it's their most interesting and enjoyable record since they moved away from the noisier guitar jams.

pretzel walrus, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

I listened to the new one a bit last night.

Boring.

Drooone, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

Sasha in the New Yorker says the new one has a track that sounds like Billy Joel, and another that sounds like the Jam's tribute to Motown ("A Town Called Malice"). Do you hear that (I have not heard it yet)?

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, "Underdog".
eh, it's pretty sweet. No doubt it will appear in some awesome sit-com.

Drooone, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, that's a great SF-J description of "Waiting for the Kids to Come Out"!

These Robust Cookies, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

byebyepride, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 01:56 (eighteen years ago)

I must have heard this on the radio tonight. Joel was the first thing that popped in my head.
