Coldplay's The Scientist and Sum41's Pieces, the mash-up that took too little effort

Thought you guys might get a kick out of this. In your left speaker is Coldplay's Clocks, in your right speaker is Sum41's Pieces. This is not a mash-up, but the songs being played simultaneously. This is for all the people who got a kick out of the Nickelback songs that were all too alike.

Enjoy!

haven't downloaded, but are you sure the Coldplay song isn't "The Scientist"? 'Coz that's the song that "Pieces" sounds exactly like.

that's awesome!

Shit, mind was drifting. Yeah, that should read "The Scientist". I was looking at the Scientist's release date from Cold Rush of Blood on AMG and read the review of Clocks, getting it stuck in the back of my mind and accidentally putting it instead.

If the moderators have the power to fix my mistake that'd be great. I don't believe I can edit it after the fact, can I?

Cunga (Cunga), Thursday, 17 February 2005 07:44 (twenty years ago)

this is hypnotizing me.

Subject line fixed.

This IS strangely hypnotic.

"The Scientist" is dull enough as it is, coupling it with Sum41 must create some sort of black hole of boredom which bends all rays of interest that pass within its sphere of suckitude.

Speedhump Bungle (noodle vague), Friday, 18 February 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

Hm.. I enjoy "The Scientist" as a typical decent Coldplay song that Chris Martin would have written anyway, but I think "Pieces" is a giant turd that seems to only have been recorded to maintain Sum 41's Top 40 airplay, similar to other recent follow-up-album's-second-singles as "The Reason," "I Miss You" and "Scars." They ARE essentially the same song though. Is it entirely context that makes one song better to me?

billstevejim, Friday, 18 February 2005 05:02 (twenty years ago)

these songs unite and become this really chilling, beguiling entity.

when i listen to this it just kind of engulfs me to the point where i'm not even aware of what it is. my senses win over any analytical factors that might typically come into play.

now, i'm generally repulsed by what i know of these bands, i mean, i guess sum 41 has had some amusing moments of entertainment, and i do like the video for ''yellow'' but i couldn't imagine ever taking either of them seriously. and i don't think i could even tolerate sitting through either of these songs on their own..hmm, it is strange that i like this so much. perhaps it's because i'm not very familiar with the individual songs, at least, not enough to protest them. i've never even heard ''pieces'' but i have heard ''the scientist'' a few times, so in this mix there is some level of recognition going on. in fact, my only complaint is that the coldplay song is too soft. funny. overall, if this one can elicit such a positive reaction out of me, and when i know there is potential here for a more finely tuned interplay, wow, i'm anticipating a super creepy panorama version of this.

Hey thanks for fixing that. I'll try to be a little more "there" next time I write up another thread.

Cunga (Cunga), Friday, 18 February 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

come on people, listen to this.

Too fucking true, there seems to be no more originality left..when kids start wearing their parents clothes to rebel it's the end of the bloody world ! It's not as If we don't have enough shoe gazing music that someone needs to mirror the other..or is this just a basic rip off...well keep it up! these comparisons allways make me laugh.te me ! - www.unmoderated.co.uk

my friend is convinced that the Cranberries' Zombie lines up with this too but the tempo is way different

This is truly, truly remarkable. First time I've ever enjoyed listening to a Sun 41 song!

Extraordinary. Proof that two wrongs can make a right.

bracestower, Monday, 21 February 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

Damn, this is surprisingly satisfying-- too many years of multitasking have fucked my brain inputs. I swear this is gonna jumpstart the next new trend in pop music. Hey, if kids wanna pay a buck a song, this two-for-one thing is a bargain.

I remember in 10th grade, talking to the kids in my band about how "Zombie," "Violet" and "Disarm" were all pretty much the same song. The all use | Em | C | G | D/F# | as their basic structure, as do "The Scientist" and "Pieces."

High school mathematics at work: Negative + Negative = Positive.
I don't care for either song individually, but together, something quite
pleasing to mine ears.
