When your favourite band breaks up and nobody cares (farewell Supercar)

For the past couple of years I've been telling anyone who would listen about a phenomenal Japanese band called Supercar. While moderately popular in Japan, they remained virtually unknown in the rest of the world. The only exposure they ever recieved in the west was through the "Japan for Sale" compilations put out by Sony records. Well, they announced a few weeks ago that they're breaking up and I'm actually pretty upset about it. I can't overstate how good these guys are/were. David Bowie is even on record singing this band's praises. They had it all: the tunes, the live show, they even looked good. Their last show is Feb.26 at Studio Coast in Tokyo. Although nobody on ILM probably cares, I just wanted to publicly declare that there's at least one fan who's plenty broken up. Thank you Supercar, you will be missed.

I'll check them out now, the problem was I was so busy having the Pillows be my token Japanese band that I didn't bother to check out any others. :(

You will not be disappointed.

I went through a wee Supercar phase back in the nineties. They had a distorted indie dance song which was quite nice. It was maybe their second single. What was it called?

I think it was called Fairway. Fans of MBV should check 'em out.

yeah, re:MBV when i watched Lost in Translation i thought many parts of the soundtrack sounded like Supercar. But I guess it was the Kevin Shields stuff. that's too bad they are calling it quits.
