Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

They import contraband trucker hats.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

hipsters enjoy everything; haven't you heard all those names Murphy drops in "Losing My Edge"?

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

they would be reflexively "embarrased" about

chrysalis, Friday, 18 February 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

i'm sure there's some southern hip-hop that fits in this category.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

Maybe they can't enjoy Glen Frey's "Smuggler's Blues" because it cuts to the bone about the dangerous game they are playing as hipster smugglers?

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

'november rain'

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, a true hipster will enjoy exactly what you think he won't... just to spite you.

xxx-post

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 18 February 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

You guys are just Smug Hitlers!

Huk-L, Friday, 18 February 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

You guys are just Smug Hitlers!

I like some of the Smug Hitlers early stuff...the split 7 they did with the Magic Tunnels on Skin Graft was cool....after that i was kinda "meh" on them.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 18 February 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

The one with "Testicular Bravery", right?

W i l l (common_person), Friday, 18 February 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

(x-post)
yeah, but this thread is about the hipster smugglers, which is what the smug hitlers became after smug magazine sued 'em. the hipster smugglers were a largely different band, owing to singer/guitarist chris chrysalis' discovery of kabbalah.

(but that split with the magic tunnels was a masterpiece, which never got the credit it deserved due to kids in brooklyn and montreal refusing to enjoy it on ideological grounds.)

fact checking cuz (fcc), Friday, 18 February 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Heh heh...I thought it read "hipster SNUGGLERS"! Have to wait for an occasion to use that term.

"Don't Worry, Be Happy" belongs here. Or, rather, it would if it were a great song.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Friday, 18 February 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

...hmmm, and howbout The Osmonds' "One Bad Apple"? There's a lotta folks who still mistake it for the Jackson 5 (a few minutes of googling confirms this), and presumably some of those folks would be shocked to learn that they were listening to a family of white Mormons from Utah, as opposed to a family of black Jehovah's Witnesses from Indiana.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Friday, 18 February 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

I know, I know ......

Richard Marx's "Should've Known Better."

Hey, if "Don't Worry, Be Happy" belongs here, so does this.

ffirehorse, Friday, 18 February 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

"songs i like that are so great, people must be LYING about not liking them" "i hate it when ppl have a goofy play-about with music that i take v v seriously" "what is wrong with people" "hey u kids, get off my lawn U R ALL GAY"

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 18 February 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

I hate this thread so much that I don't even like it ironically!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 18 February 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

Living on a Prayer.

Juliet O'Keefe (severalemilys), Monday, 21 February 2005 05:11 (twenty years ago)

early pink floyd. all critical publications deem it syd barrett-penned inspired genius, but the spectre of later pink floyd makes it a sin by name alone.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 21 February 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

Every hipster I know likes early Pink Floyd! In fact they all bitch that there isn't a good odds and ends collection of the non-Piper singles and Barrett tracks!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 21 February 2005 07:18 (twenty years ago)

everything that goes around comes around.

in the not-too-distant past, the hipsters would have mocked you if you admitted to liking synth-pop (except kraftwerk and [maybe] depeche mode).

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 21 February 2005 07:30 (twenty years ago)

Taylor Dayne singles.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Monday, 21 February 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)
