Creative Use of MP3s

All the threads about file sharing have me wondering about examples where artists have used MP3s creatively. I don't mean just making music available, but doing something in a way that engages directly with the format in terms of how it is used and its limitations and/or how files are shared. One sort of lame anti-example is Madonna releasing those "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" fake MP3s.

well, mashups probably would not have proliferated the way they have were it not for mp3s. for better or worse. bands like ultra red seem to have really embraced the mp3 as medium thing. i love it when artists make their separated tracks available online to allow anyone to remix them.

What does Ultra Red do, upload individual tracks in a multi-track mix?

Ultra-Red started an online label and website for mp3's, political essays, videos, etc. Everything can be d/l'ed for free.

Laub's Filesharing had a folder with all of the samples used on the album when you played it on the computer. AGF/Delay are doing a similar thing on their website now.

Some of mine end up as coasters.

i dont know if this answers your question at all but my group super madrigal brothers has two memebers and we are both living in different parts of the country. we record everything by sending mp3s back and forth thru email or uploading them on the site...
