Hey, On That New Kompakt Pop Ambient Album There Is A Song Called "Let The Snakes Crinkle Their Heads To Death"...

...is it a Felt homage? Do they sample Felt? What's the deal? I saw the vinyl at the record store (come on, how cool is that the one and only record store on martha's vineyard carries Kompakt vinyl?? Come on! They have the Mayer album on vinyl and the Justus Kohnke(sorry, spelling?) (do i need that J.K. album, by the way?)) Anyway, Request For Information.

Justus Köhnke's Doppelleben? I liked it, but quickly grew tired of it. I like the concept though - from the dance floor going home - but it didn't really work in my opinion. Alles Nochmal = german *cover* of carly simon's "coming around again".

By the way, if you want a few tracks of that record, just let me know and I'll send it.

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Saturday, 19 February 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

i liked the kohnke album cover with his great big piercing eyeballs. i didn't have money to buy that one or the pop ambient one. thus, my questions.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 19 February 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Woah, that's the concept? Why is the second most danceable track ("Timecode") near the end, then? Is that like the come-home-drunk-and-start-dancing-while-setting-the-alarm track?

"Die Platte ist weitgehend ein Rückzug vom Club ins Private, in die Stunden am Sonntagnachmittag nach dem Zusammenschweißen unter Stroboskop und Euphorie."

http://www.intro.de/review/Justus+K%f6hncke/Doppelleben

Sorry, you'll have to learn some German to understand it. But the gist of it:
concept: A return to the private home after clubbing.

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Saturday, 19 February 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

i guess i'll just google some reviews of that pop ambient thing. i shoulda known that all the kompakt headz would still be in bed after a long nite of brownbag house. ( brownbag house? crunk vocal samples over some of cologne's finest automotive beats. where have you been?)

Interesting. That hints at answers to some questions I had about the album. Sadly, my German can't handle much more than "wo bist du." I wish I could read it.

"The plate [record] is to a large extent a retreat of [from] the club in[to] the private, into the hours in the Sunday afternoon after welding [?] together under stroboscope and euphoria."

The Kilmek track is wordless, I don't think there is any relation to the Felt track other than the title.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 19 February 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

well, it's the title of a wordless felt album, so that makes sense.

I too had missed the Doppelleben concept. So what's happening on 'Alles Nochmal'? He's invited people back to his to watch Heartburn on DVD?

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 19 February 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

it's hardly perfect, but there is www.freetranslation.com if you need some german translated to english, in a very broken way, mind you.

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 19 February 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

i was actually kidding, most of the songs aren't really futuro schlagers in a kompakt format, in fact, it's teutonic metal for cycling.

eight years pass...

Which thread are we using for the 20th anniversary celebrations?

djh, Wednesday, 20 March 2013 20:02 (twelve years ago)

we should be using all of them, really

boxedjoy, Wednesday, 20 March 2013 21:23 (twelve years ago)

I almost bought the 20 Years compilation ... but didn't like the card sleeve.

djh, Wednesday, 20 March 2013 21:55 (twelve years ago)

I bought a scarf, bag and the fanzine (with a bunch of records). I'm only missing a couple of tracks from the comp so I'll miss on that.

mmmm, Wednesday, 20 March 2013 22:30 (twelve years ago)

I succumbed and bought it.

I must admit I'd like a bag.

djh, Thursday, 21 March 2013 18:08 (twelve years ago)

I notice it is "Vol 1". Feel obliged to buy the whole series now. As there been any word about a second volume?

djh, Saturday, 23 March 2013 00:16 (twelve years ago)

I was under the impression it would be three discs so that's probably something to do with it

boxedjoy, Saturday, 23 March 2013 00:57 (twelve years ago)

I the Resident Advisor thread there was a cd 3 track list that looked good. It had Kolsch's All that matters on it, which is definitely my favourite Kompakt record of recent times.

mmmm, Saturday, 23 March 2013 08:02 (twelve years ago)

Feels odd not to have included "So Weit Wie Noch Nie" (indeed, no J Paape) or "One, two, three, No Gravity".

(Both listed on the mysterious third CD).

djh, Saturday, 23 March 2013 21:59 (twelve years ago)

I hope there's going to be a Tobias Thomas mix this year (otherwise the celebrations will be meaningless).

djh, Monday, 1 April 2013 14:48 (twelve years ago)

Yes please, please, please

willem, Monday, 1 April 2013 15:21 (twelve years ago)

I hope they still have bags left by the time I come to order the classical CD.

Feels like there was more care/love involved than the compilation.

djh, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 16:46 (twelve years ago)

Nice to hear lots of Closer Musik on there. Most of the tracks are fairly succinct. Some - eg. Supermayer's Two Of Us - seem far too short.
