its fresh. no decernable sign of either dalle or manson. a good thing. sounds like the first true josh homme solo record to my ears.

the one critiscm would be: not enough Lanegan.

4/5

That's a hugely good thing. Pity about him and Nick, though.

I saw the video for the first single yesterday. The song weirded me out, it sounded like QOTSA doing a shitty Killers-type thing. Does the rest of the album have songs that are more in their own style?

I'm supremely bummed about him and Nick. They go together like rama lama lama da-dingity ding-ga dong. But I'm curious to hear solo Josh.

yes. little sister is unrepresentative of the rest of the record.

overall theres no crossover track on the record like lost art of keeping a secret or no one knows. however, it is a layered fun album with grooves that i for one have looked forward to since the release of the last album.

the lack of Lanegan (other than cute opener) is unfortunate - as his rasp can counterbalance Homme's falsetto nicely.

the rekkid shows no sign of missing oliveri.

dead sexy.

I'm a huge Queens fans, and have only heard Little Sister from the new album, but worry without Nick or Mark the vocals will get pretty repetitive. Anybody heard it and found this?

"the rekkid shows no sign of missing oliveri"

say huh????
did you listen to the same album as i????

it's SEVERLEY lacking nick. while it may be dark, it's missing that little rough edge nick brought. it's all too clean and up-front. and the vox are WAY too out in front. the low end is nearly non-existant.
overall production is pretty thin.

now, while QotSA may have always been josh, me thinks the ego's gettin to him. he always maintained that 'if the band gets too big, it's done'. well, we're there, josh. i'd really hate to see another album like this one...

still better than the new ToD, but not as good as the new bek.

you think i aint worth a dollar aside, i feel that homme's tunes were always the knife-edge on qotsa records. saw oliveri support lanegan 3/4 months ago. he sucked. the record misses lanegan, not oliveri. more lanegan would have sorted that "rough edge" you refer to eedd.

maybe we're coming to the argument from different perspectives man, the psyched grooves homme lays down far outweigh the unhinged ode-to-Id that oliveri represented to me. if you get hung up on that, nae bother.

s'far as i can tell, homme can still party.

QOTSA rock. The new album too. 4/5, min.

it's about the playing, maaaaan!
oliveri has a style to his bass i just luv.
fits sooo well with joshua....

eedd, Sunday, 20 February 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

i said i thought it needed more Lanegan. well, i'll be interested to read the songwriting credits for it - long slow goodbye sounds like he wrote it.

for all the oliveri lovers out there - do you reckon "everybody knows that youre insane" is refering to anyone in particular?

homme never was the most subtle...

super record.

Era Vulgaris, their 2007 album, hasn't leaked (yet), you damn misleading thread title!

We only just heard the first 40 seconds on their website yesterday... (it's a track called Sick Sick Sick)
