Album Clashes

not the best threadtitle but anyway. Which recent albums can be compared to some extent to alltime classics? I'll do one:

Xiu Xiu - Fabulous Muscles
vs.
Pop Group - Y

I'm aware of the absolute differences in intention between those bands but what do you think of the comparison sound- and moodwise?

I'm curious to see what recent albums made you think back like ooooh fuck that sounds like [...]

Soundwise, Xiu Xiu's a lot more lo-fi (although their production's improving) and fraught in a not very fun way. I've never really thought The Pop Group to be in any league with them at all, though. I'll have to dwell on this.

Maybe The Birthday Party would make a bit more sense than The Pop Group? I could see Hee-Haw or Prayers on Fire being a bit of a forerunner to Fabulous Muscles. Then again, maybe those Birthday Party records are a bit too fun...Junkyard might be a bit more suitable.
