Spaghetti Western music before shows - C/D?

The Clash used Morricone's "Sixty Seconds to What?" as intro music before the Sandinista and Combat Rock tours. Dylan has been using similar music for years and now I hear the Pixies and other bands have picked up on it. Anyone know the reasons or origins for this?

Metallica too... And cuz the scores usually rule.

The Ramones did as well.

I'm guessing because they think it makes them seem like "badass outlaws" or something, which is pretty silly when you think about it.

Dylan uses "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copland.

the godfathers used to come onto to some Sergio L sounds .. always heightened the atmosphere .. especially as the scowling band members walked through the crowd in their mobster suits - a rare thing in 1986 when most bands played the scruffy look.

I have to admit that the anticipation of the Clash taking the stage while Morricone was playing -- complete with red sirens twirling around the stage -- was pretty intense.
