I got this last night. Played most of disc one. First reaction - I am going to be immersed in this for a long time! After Hours, Sister Ray, Foggy Notion - ace!

Anyone got this too? Thoughts?

here is what was said when they first came out. but that thread got sort of derailed, so let's try it again shall we? (i'm also planning a velvets article for FT or elsewhere, so gimme opinions i can plunder as my own.)

OBVIOUS MASSIVE PROBLEM with "The Quine Tapes" = THEY DON'T FEATURE ROBERT QUINE.

i have no idea where to begin with that one...

I bet you can hear RQ breathing. Or is that tape hiss?

Bloody brilliant. Those tapes show again that VU were an amazing live band. Especially disc 3 with the intimate Matrix shows is great.

six years pass...

I have been listening to this all day. In fact, you could say I have Velvet Underground FEVER. Does anyone know if the "Velvet Underground Bootleg Series" will ever become a real series and have more than one volume?

seems like that gymnasium bootleg might inspire them to restart this "series" ... i think there was supposed to be a Boston Tea Party set, but it got nixed or delayed or something. I'm going to go ahead and blame Lou Reed.

What about Quine? Did he have more tapes set aside before he passed away? Can't some conniving, enterprising young dude acquire a few tapes and release them? I'm hungry!

what i was always interested in was Quine's "guitar solo" tapes ... I think Lou Reed talked about these -- they were Quine's homemade comps of the best guitar solos ever or something. Are those around?

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Thursday, 18 December 2008 01:44 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks to this and the WL/WH thread, I've been listening to VU and WL/WH for two hours.

You'd be right to, I believe he has actually said there won't be any more.

Yeah, Lou's whole obsession is sound quality, isn't it? And the Quine tapes are not exactly hi-fi. Still, LOU THAT SHIT IS RAD. YOU'D GET PAID $$$$.
