is it good?

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Monday, 21 February 2005 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

damn, based on the lifeless "Candy Shop" and his horrible SNL performance, I can't think this'd be any good...but I'm not a fan anyway

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Monday, 21 February 2005 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

is 'ski mask way' on it? Thats hot shit.

deej., Monday, 21 February 2005 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

only about halfway through, and aside from ski mask way it's pretty horrible. i liked the last one and the g unit album too. this shit is just dull.

First funny thing popjustice has ever done

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont really like piggy bank, thats the only other thing i've heard (the 2 singles + ski mask way) but its not even funny like "how to rob," the disses are pretty er 'mean' i guess but it just seems so forced. dude's the fucking king of the mountain and he bothers to diss anyone else? I mean its not like i don't know the motives or whatever (clickety clank) but blah this just seems like much ado about nothang.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I kinda like "Piggy Bank", the weird jittery feel and the choir-sounding bits in the background. dissing Kiss and Fat Joe just for doing a song with Ja, not so much.

the one I'm curious to hear is "A Baltimore Love Thing", partly because of the title obviously, but also because 50 has said in a bunch of interviews that it's his favorite song and his description of it sounds pretty interesting:

"Well, A Baltimore Love Thing is, it's titled that because in Baltimore the heroin addiction rate is really high. So the song is about the relationship between an addict and the drug. I give this drug a motion, feelings and at some point in the song, the drug actually becomes mad at the addict for trying to leave. It's like a real vivid description of what it would be like if it was human."

so if anyone has that one, yousendit to me or something.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

that sounds like it has the potential to be crazily corny.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha, just read the lyrics on govtnames. yeah this is gonna be shit. corny as i gave you power and other 'yo my girl is my gun on this song' tracks.

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

of course it's corny! all cheesy conceptual rap tracks like that are. but that doesn't mean the concept isn't executed well.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I really like Disco Inferno.

I really like the concept of Baltimore Love Thing - its good but not as good as I hoped it would be. I think the beat is good but the concept he's got going calls for a darker Dre or Scott Storch beat. Or actually I think a really creepy DJ Paul/Juicy J beat would have really worked well here.

I like Candy Shop too. I don't see what the problem is. Another catchy G-Unit hook. Olivia seems to fit like a glove as the G-Unit chick as far as I can tell. Hell she's already been in ALL their videos. That beat is some scary shit too. I like how Scott Storch is sorta sinking further into himself as a producer.

Thats all I've heard so far but I think I'll like it. I think I'll like pretty much anything thats gonna have Dre, Eminem, Scott Storch, Hi Tek doing beats. And I think the G-Unit cats (some more than others obv) are pretty clever myself.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Candy Shop too. I don't see what the problem is.

For one thing, it sounds exactly like Magic Stick.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

heard abt 2/3rds of it. the only track so far i could feel in my chest (pussies get hard lip syncin my lyrics etc whatevr) is i'm supposed to die tonight. 50 has the coldest flow of anyone, but this album is lukewarm. i can do a great impression btw

P$T, Tuesday, 1 March 2005 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

b-o-o-o-o-o-oring. One of the flattest hip-hop deliveries ever - after the novelty of it fades, all we get is this...? lame.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I like 50 okay, but it seems like The Game has the best 50 Cent single out right now....50's two singles seem lifeless in comparison to that awesome beat.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

what abt 50 dropping subliminals at em in song titles??

P$T, Tuesday, 1 March 2005 06:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i think you all might be turned off by the grimy nyc street 2005 illmatic beats. you can't hate the verses.

P$T, Tuesday, 1 March 2005 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I like 50 okay, but it seems like The Game has the best 50 Cent single out right now....50's two singles seem lifeless in comparison to that awesome beat.

Shooting Outside Hot 97 Tonight, After 50 Cent Interview Attacking Game

NY's Fox 5 News is reporting a shooting outside Hot 97 tonight. No details yet, but many of you will be aware that 50 Cent and G Unit were there tonight, stirring up lots of drama on Flex's show. I'll post details as I get them.

(Most of 50's comments tonight were aimed at Game, and they were not of a friendly sort. I'm sure the audio will be all over by tomorrow. EDIT: in fact, MTV is already on it. Shaheem is on point.)

EDIT: Fox had another report from Lisa Evers, who hosts "Street Soldiers" at Hot.. she was in the building when it happened, and was told to evacuate along with everyone else who was running out of the building, saying there was a shooting. 50 and his entourage were not hit, they were shuffled out of a back entrance. A 20 year old male was shot in the leg and thigh, and is expected to recover... that's about all she had.

11:30 PM EDIT: Game's brother Big Fase is posting on Game's Black Wall Street website, saying:

"them hoe ass niggaz security shot my lil homie. its all bad @the radio station."

[second post]
he got shot 3times.he is ok.
it wasnt 50cent security,it was 1 of his niggaz though.
im holdin 50cent responsible.

Also on blackwallstreet, someone posted a report that Sway gave on KMEL:

"Game came to the building with BWS and in the end one of BWS was shot 2 times but will be ok. Also said that 50 is going to diss eminem and dre and he wants nothing to do with interscope. MTV will have and interview but not all questions will be shown"

SOHH is reporting the victim was one of 50's security.

1:30 EDIT: Here is the audio of the interview, and here is the moment when 50 was told of the shooting and ushered out of the studio.

Whatever the details turn out to be, after the blissful nostalgia of our Public Enemy weekend this sure is a sobering return to reality. As Mr. Fishburne said: Welcome to the desert of the real. And it almost seems tragically poetic that all this takes place as hip-hop activists plan a protest against Hot 97's misrepresentation of hip-hop, this friday at Union Square.

haha

djdee (djdee2005), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Fat Joe was on a local station last week, talking about his beef w/ 50 (which is like a wee wittle duckfart compared to this Game / 50 and/or 50 / AfterShadyMath stuff), & said (in so many words) that it wouldn't suprise him, given 50's scorched-earth policy re: most other rappers (cf. Ja Rule, Nas, Kelis, FJ, etc etc etc), if 50 turns on Eminem eventually. If Sway's report up there has any legs, eventually came pretty damn quick. Stuff was also said about Joe keepin' it real in the streets while 50 hides behind his entourage & security detail up here in Farmington, CT. However, Joe also said that he'd have a response (to "Piggy Bank") on his new album (out in April, tho there were rumors he was going to push it up & go head-to-head w/ The Massacre, which would not be a fair fight), and that's as far as he's willing to go w/ it.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Also - the morning crew (on the same station - Hot 93.7, out of Hartford) were talking about this non-stop, but making it seem (just by their account of events) like Game was the one trippin' on his own ego. The accounts HERE make it sound like 50's the one w/ the real problem (which would go hand-in-hand w/ this other 50-related stuff).

Also also - I guess Lloyd Banks is on record as hopping on board the Nas beef bandwagon, going so far as to say (in a concert @ Toad's Place last weekend) that he's a better lyricist than Nas (or something to that effect).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

the cover for this album is fucking terrible!

splooge (thesplooge), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

2005: What the Fuck is Going On?

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I can only imagine what the cover looked like when it was called The Valentine's Day Massacre - 50 working the quiver and mini-bow and papier-mache wings?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

New title suggestion: The Hot 97 Cheddar Bob Incident

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hip-hop-as-bloodsport is wack.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

this sucks.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Game can do without that puffed up ugly head

Rizz (Rizz), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

50's puffed up ugly head

Rizz (Rizz), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

it really, really sucks to see 50 go off the rails like this.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

What mark said. I hope someone in some position of power or prestige steps up and says something. I've heard a few DJs speak up, but only in CT. I'd love to know what Hot 97 folks have to say about this. Also, if 50 is pre-emptively dropped by Shady / Aftermath after this - and I don't know what'd be better for them (from a non-financial standpoint), to try & smooth this out & stick w/ 50, or cut ties and let him go it alone - shit's probably going to escalate super-fast. Are all these non-Ja beefs 50's fomenting a result of folks just working with Ja, BTW?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, the Joe/Jada beefs are purely about them being on "New York". which is stupid, because Cool & Dre produced that record, and 50 did a song with them!

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah - I remember Joe also saying (in that 93.7 phone interview) that he, in essence, gave 50 & The Game the "Love It or Hate It" beat. FJ said he worked on it & passed on it because it sounded like "Lean Back", & when the producer - Scott Scorch? - asked if it was cool to shop it around, Joe said no problem. (I might be paraphrasing all this wrong.)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

you're probably thinking of "Candy Shop", which Storch did and sounds like "Lean Back"...but "Hate It Or Love It" is by Cool & Dre, who are part of Fat Joe's crew and did "New York" and a lot of FJ/Terror Squad records.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
