FEATURING...!

we've probably done this before (i'm sure nick'll be along on a 73 with a selection of blue lines to be handed out to all), but when you see a new album, and on the sticker on the front it says "FEATURING - Steve Bloke from The Indies on Saw, Charlotte Exoticgirl from Elextrogainsbourg on vocals and Calvert De Foreign from BMX Revival Posse on Dnxtatron", does it make you feel EXCITED? does it make you want the album more?

because i thought i'd get the Dntel album, and then it had one of these stickers on the front, and i looked at it and thought, no, i don't think so, and put it back. it may have been a really good album, but guest appearances just don't sell it for me. or is it the way it is presented?

what do you think of guest spots on records, and do you have any particular faves that could make me change my mind?

i think it cuts both ways, gareth. and i think it often has something to do with just how sexy those names are to you. the names also turned me off the dntel album; they were what -sold- my girlfriend on it. if i hadn't gotten over it, or if she hadn't known about the guest stars, neither of us would have heard it. (and it - is- a great album.)

The toasting djs on Rocksteady - No Doubt's new one - are uh superfluous and at times even a nuisance.

actually the dntel record is not very good, the mere mention of slint on the cover made me cringe! future pilot aka should have put one of those stickers on his album of course it would have taken up the entire front cover had he done it. i suppose he could have just put 'featuring members of every fey scottish pop band ever'.
