LL Cool J: RFI/D

If this has been asked before, be a nice pedant and fetch the link, would ya?

So, before my J-Lo/Ja Rule/Brandy epiphany, this wonderful radio station (Hot 93.7) played some track featuring Method Man, DMX (I THINK it was DMX - he didn't do his schtick, but that voice ... had to be), and Mr. Cool James. At first, I assumed it was RZA (yeah, sue me), but then, when the ladies sighed "Elle elle" in the background whilst he tore shit up, I was taken aback (in a very good way).

He's done good before, though - where is this goodness? And, better yet, where is this badness? How old IS this track - is Cool James still relevant nowadays?

He was on that Ludacris track "Fatty Girl" a few months ago, and his verse is pretty great... esp. when the girl interjects "I'm not supposed to do this kind of thing--I'm a Christian!"

haha that was meth/redman's '4 seasons'.

ethan, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

or 'fuhgedabowdit' from g.o.a.t. but i doubt it.

ethan, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

or '4, 3, 2, 1'. If it were '4 seasons' then DMX was actually Ja-Rule explaining the lack of schtick.

Honda has it. I remember the counting.

David Raposa, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that's what my haha was for. shit, i forgot dmx was on 4,3,2,1. it's very likely it's that, actually.

ethan, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

okay then, dave has confirmed. i didn't even think of it, probably because that track is all about canibus for me (everyone?) and dave didn't even mention him!

ethan, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can't tell RZA from LL or Ja Rule from DMX, how the hell you expect me to recognize Canibus?

David Raposa, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'i'm the illest nigga alive watch me PROVE IT / i snatch your crown wit ya head still attatched TO IT / canibus is the type who'll fight for mics / beatin niggaz to death and beatin dead niggaz to life'!!!

at least it wasn't the remix with master p. 'no limit....def squad...wu-tang...', what- fucking-ever.

I thought Master P was chasing caviar dreams as a pro playa. Hoops playa, that is.

David Raposa, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He averaged about 1.2 points per game in the NBA. So then he tried some low budget leauge. Now I think he coach AAU ball for his son. He is trying to be something else other than a rapper. Because he is trying to break the steriotype of rappers being uneducated and violent. That is why you see him at the Hip Hop summet each year talking about the common misconseptions of rappers in the year 2002. His caviar now relies in his son, because now that gangsta side of P. is more of a positive type person that is trying to be multi- domintional in the Hip Hop industry.

Which is more reprehensible: glamorizing the gangsta lifetstyle or pimping your son?

Dan Perry, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've been spreading a rumour among my friends that Lil Bow Wow was raped by his limo driver. Someone told me it was true and I decided I wanted to believe it. that puts a new shine on things yes?

Ronan, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well Dan Perry that is like picking your mom or your wife. If you had to choose it would be bad on both parts. But I think he forseeing everything he does in the business rather than pimping him. I think he will use his son as a crutch now to keep him in the lime-light of celeb status. I just hope that he isn't using his son as a catalist to boost his carrer. Because that is why the Jackson 5 and many other child stars have scared relationships with their parents when they get older.

Hollywood Jaimison, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well i wouldnt go as far as saying pimpin, then again, everybody is pimpin somebody, somehow. but i dont think heis trying to boost his career, he's just trying to give his son options, kinda layin the red carpet out for him, to let him get it out of his system. then, i could be wrong. thats what i would do for my son.

Don't know much about LL beyond his singles, but "The G.O.A.T.", which he did with Adam F for his last album, is beyond awesome.

'Going Back To Cali' by LL Cool J is one of the greatest hip-hop singles ever made.
