sign a contract promising not to drink, take drugs or have premarital sex.

None of that stuff ever happens in boring old Indiana anyway.

"I voluntarily agree to not indulge in any alcohol, drugs or engage in any other illegal activity that may in any way jeopardize the years of hard work we as a team have committed to our goal of a championship season in '76."

"Indiana Wants Me"...to shoot myself in the face.

Whatever it is produced Racebannon, which pretty much is a vortex of non-boredom.

and also MX-80 Sound

My reaction reading this, is probably the lateral equivalent of what a middle american soccer mom must think when she reads about S and M clubs.

Holy smokes! Not only did I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 28 years (relocated to Austin - thank God!), but I actually WENT to Taylor U - the school mentioned in this article. How embarrasing! Geez! I've changed since then...

By the way, there just COULDN'T be a much bigger Racebannon fan than myself. All hail Racebannon, certainly the wildest thing ever from the Hoosier state!

Well...I did some time in Muncie and, I have to say, the place is bizarre but I saw so many great bands play there in the mid 80's. Big Black, Scratch Acid, YO La Tengo, etc., ETc.

god, can't these people do something a little more wholesome, like oxycontin or whiskey?

sign a contract promising not to drink, take drugs or have premarital sex.

And this is a liberal-arts school? What do they sign at conservative-arts school? A legally binding contract promising to go church every sunday, say their prayers and be in bed by 10:30?

To be fair, it sounds like Flagstaff is pretty boring too.

ffirehorse, Thursday, 24 February 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

Flagstaff is really pretty, and it's the only city I've ever visited in Arizona(! Never been to Phoenix or Tucson yet.) It's a great pitstop for checking out the meteor crator and the Grand Canyon. But it is small, so I imagine it gets boring really quickly.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 24 February 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

But Flagstaff is a very hippy-collegey town, which I assume means it probably is the most liberal per capita city in the state... possibly even moreso than Tucson, but I could be wrong. (It reminds me a little bit of Moscow, Idaho)

Ben Dot,

Check yo self before you wreck yo self!

liberal arts
pl.n.
Academic disciplines, such as languages, literature, history, philosophy, mathematics, and science, that provide information of general cultural concern: “The term ‘liberal arts’ connotes a certain elevation above utilitarian concerns. Yet liberal education is intensely useful” (George F. Will).

The disciplines comprising the trivium and quadrivium.
