Green AND Gay

A friend of a friend of mine is organising the Greens float at the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, and wants to think of a fabulous song for it to be pumping out as it trundles down Oxford Street.

And, since there was a thread called "Green or Gaye" I couldn't resist.

Something extremely gay, but also vaguely environmental. My best suggestion was "Help! I'm A Fish", but that's a bit rubbish, innit? (Not the song, it's k-great, but as far as being thematically sound, er, it doesn't work, does it?)

"It's Not Easy Being Green"? (Not that I particularly associate it with gayness, but difference.)

how 'bout "river" by public art? rivers are vaguely environmental.

actually i think RS nailed it.

That, in hindsight, seems so startlingly obvious, doesn't it?

I thought this was gonna be about Green Day. Green Gay could be a queer GD cover band.

Green Gay could be a queer GD cover band.

Pansy Division already went there, girlfriend.

I wonder if "It's Not Easy Being Green" is too much of a downer though (despite its ultimate embrace of being green)? Maybe you could do (find?) a calypso version or something.

Get a Kylie lookalike on a giant flip-flop, singing: "We are the dancing greens, young and sweet..."

The "Green" segment of the Emerald City Sequence of The Wiz film soundtrack.

Pansy Division don't really sound very much like Green Day at all

Heh heh...I posted a variation of this exact same "political" joke on the "or" thread. Same joke, different threads: guess we'll never know which of us thought it up first!

I thought this was gonna be about Green Day. Green Gay could be a queer GD cover band.

Certain rumours would say that this is a tautology.

I think I like "The Rainbow Connection" a little bit more than "It's Not Easy Being Green", but I wonder if the greenness of Kermit isn't so obvious with that one.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 24 February 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

"Evergreen"?

I'd love to hear "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" as the float goes past, but the organiser loved the idea of Help! I'm A Fish. So, there we go.
