hm, what's Blue Riders? never heard of em (and i've followed a few of Steve's side projects) and Google's not turning up anything in relation to Shelley.

I get the impression Steve Shelley plays with a lot of bands on an informal basis. I was at some Maxwell's show last year, and he turned out to be the drummer for the opener, a rock dude whose name I forget.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 24 February 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

But he's a great drummer, and this still sounds like a good opportunity to see him play up close.

the black hollies are pretty good. dude from rye coalition and his dad.

Shelley used to drum for Two Dollar Guitar too - speaking of which, does anyone know if they're still active?

isn't uncle joe's a gay bar?

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 24 February 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

i saw mr. shelley on the c train about a week ago and was gonna ask him about $2 guitar but i figured he didn't wanna be bothered.

last I heard from Two Dollar Guitar was when I saw Tim Foljahn play a solo show about a year and a half ago. I talked to him a little and he said he was working on a new record, and his set was all new stuff (including one really good song with a recycled riff from a Train Songs instrumental). but then, it's been a year and a half and still no record, so who knows.

Uncle Joe's hasn't been a gay bar for more than three years. But yes, it once was.

No father of a Rye Coalition member plays in The Black Hollies, but they are great. Three of the five guys from RC make up this band. Fans of Rye Coalition may know them by their previous name, Sans Alabaster (it was recently changed).

As for Shelley, I think this band was once called the Nite Lights, if that helps. It could be as Hurting said- just an informal thing.
I'm really not sure.

Donewaiting.com has organized this show and more information on Shelley's project may be available on their site.

Regardless, all NYC-area folk, come on out. Everybody's welcome.

Also, for those who are thinking of attending, Shelley's band is one of the openers, so don't miss out by being late!

Bump.
