seventeen years pass...

some v sad news for the London improv scene - Sybil Madrigal - “Boat-Ting founder, poet, teacher, frontwoman of God's Mama” to use a friend’s phrase - has passed away. I first met her at The Klinker and always associate her in that original context with Hugh Metcalfe and Lol Coxhill. She was a hell of a force both on stage and organising events, and a lovely, gregarious and funny person as well. Alex Ward will be continuing to run Boat-Ting and there will be a Boat-Ting event celebrating her life and work and the publication of her final book next year.

Oh that is sad - I especially remember seeing Harry Beckett playing a great set on the boat a couple of years before he passed away. The whole atmosphere was friendly, mad, enthusiastic and creative - basically all the good and nice things about the UK improvised music community. RIP
