What are the 5 best songs in a row on an album, or consecutive 5 songs split between two albums (end to begining)

For me its gotta be either

Rolling Stones - Sister Morphine, Dead Flowers, Moonlight Mile from Sticy Fingers into Exile's first two tracks, Rocks Off and Rip This Joint

OR from Exile, Tumblin Dice, Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, Sweet Black Angel, and finally Lovin Cup... thats damn near perfect.

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Friday, 25 February 2005 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Stooges own this for me:

Down On The Street
Loose
TV Eye
Dirt
1970

NickB (NickB), Friday, 25 February 2005 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Predictable, but the first side of Television's Marquee Moon (See No Evil, Venus, Friction, Marquee Moon) followed by Elevation on side 2 would get my vote.

Neil Stewart (Neil Stewart), Friday, 25 February 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Owned by 'Doolittle' for me;

Debaser
Tame
Wave of Mutilation
I Bleed
Here Comes Your Man

or

Here Comes Your Man
Dead
Monkey Gone To Heaven
Mr. Grieves
Crackity Jones

Si Carter (Si Carter), Friday, 25 February 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

To Here Knows When
When You Sleep
I Only Said
Come In Alone
Sometimes

or..

Arise
Dead Embryonic Cells
Desperate Cry
Murder
Subtraction

damn i could easily add a 6th song in a row to both of those.

Made of Stone
Shoot You Down

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 25 February 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick cave 'From her to eternity':
avalanche, cabin fever, well of misery, from her to eternity, saint huck (running order of the lp, so no 'in the ghetto' and no 'the moon is in the gutter')

Marcel Verhoeven (Marcel Verhoeven), Friday, 25 February 2005 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw this thread and instantly clicked on it, and it turns out I was already beaten to the punch. The best 5 songs in order is clearly side 2 of Exile:

Tumblin Dice, Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, Sweet Black Angel, Lovin Cup

But with that off the table, I'll take the first 5 from Slanted and Enchanted: Summer Babe, Trigger Cut, No Life Singed Her, In The Mouth Of A Desert, Conduit For Sale.

If I could skip Conduit and put in Zurich is STained, it'd be even better.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Friday, 25 February 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

first five tracks on Discovery, probably, for me.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 25 February 2005 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

if "holland 1945" were track 5 on In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, i think thatd be a good contender.

Lilys' "Brief History of Amazing Letdowns" -- only five songs on it! (if you don't count 'evil kneivel' at the end, which is hardly a song).

1. Ginger
2. Ycyjqaftj...
3. Anyplace I've Lived
4. Jenny, Andrew and Me
5. Dandy

Side 2 of Abbey Road, the whole thing.

Chris O., Friday, 25 February 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm amen to Neil Stewart's first 5 songs of Marquee Moon; immensely listenable~

If Superheroes were no. 5 on Discovery, that would be pretty cut and dry to me.

First 5 Songs on Bowie's Hunky Dory I remember being engaging.

Last 5 Songs from Emergency and I were pretty hi-quality.

Some more strong stretches from recent albums that sprung to mind:

First 5 Songs on Hot Fuss contrast pretty strongly with the rest, so that sticks out.

The Neighborhood Suite and Une Anne Sans Lumierre on Funeral...
and also the next 5 songs.

Jp, jp, don't shoot~ But seriously.

Without followups:
Helen Love - Radio Hits

Rollercoasting

Summer Pop Radio

With followups, Baxendale (Over YWHYR and TRHJB) seems pretty unbeatable:

MBV
When You Sleep
I Only Said
Come In Alone
Sometimes
Blown a Wish

Interpol
1. Untitled
2. Obstacle 1
3. NYC
4. PDA
5. Say Hello to the Angels

Wow. Somebody beat me to both of those... I'm not in front of my collection right now, but the first four track of Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain are invincible. I can't remember what the fifth one is, but i'm sure it's primo.

And (again, I'm not with my CDs) but I think the last five tracks of Blank Generation, starting with "Walking on the Water" are perfect... although I can't remember the tune to "The Plan". argh.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Friday, 25 February 2005 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

the end of abbey road

..and i'd take the last 5 songs on marquee moon over the first 5. 'friction' is a great tune, but has always seemed to me like the weakest link on that album....
