Has anone heard any new songs on what happened on september 11? So far I have the Gorillaz/D12 song ('911') and I heard there's one by Neil Young. Any more out there yet?

Mystikal's "Bouncin' Back" and Wu-tang's "Rules" have lines that refer to it. There's also Fred Durst on the "What's going on" thing and Sage Francis's "Makeshift Patriot".

911 is a joke in your town.

And by what band is that? ;) But no, I was in the States when all this happened, so no jokes there. But maybe I'm missing your point. Anyway, I'm looking for these songs for a radio program that I want to do and what I'm really interested in is if there's any visible/audible effects on American music already. I would think that after four months, you could see the first "lasting" effects? There's a piece on this in the latest URB magazine called "Louder Than A Bomb". It says "rumors persist about Dre recording a 'fuck Bin Laden' track, De La Soul dropping their own reactions track & Jay Z penning an entire albums' worth of material about 9/11". The one big effect we've seen over here in Europe is American bands cancelling their tours for the beginning of the year.

I realize this is probably not exactly the sort of thing you are asking about, but the Sun Ra Arkestra under the Direction of Marshall Allen is performing an instrumental piece in response to 911. It's a Marshall Allen composition, and his playing on it has been relatively more dubdued the two times I heard it. It hasn't been released commercially. (There may be bootlegs, but I don't have them.)

Tony Orlando has penned "American Highrise" to commemorate the tragedy.

From tonyorlandoonline.com: "While the song elicits tears that flow freely during the song, it is a song that speaks to the healing that is begun."

I've yet to hear it.

Charlie Daniels has a really patrroitic version complete with childrens choir, the pledge of allgiance chants of usa and something about kicking osamas ass. i think tim mcgraw or one of those other soulless drones in cowboy hats did something as well, but icannt tell them apart.

that neil young soung is terrible, by the way. probably the worst thing he's done since the bluenotes; but lately he seems to be getting a bit more nationalistic than one would expect. isn't he canadian, anyway?

Charlie Daniels did some lovely number called "This Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag", or some other such sentiment.
Neil Young was born in Canada, but he left here 35 years ago, at least.

I hope Neil Young is not really going through another one of his nationalistic phases.

CSNY is touring, incidentally. (I have no plans to go, though I wouldn't mind seeing Neil Young again. I saw him for the first time a few years back and I was impressed.)

funny you mention that gorillaz/d12 song. i had to do internet marketing for that song for my last internship, which involved going onto webboards like this and being like, "oh my god guys, there's this hot new song by this group called the gorillaz [dan the automator, that blur guy, and that cute cibo matto chick!] and D12 [EMINEM's GROUP!]. It's their response to everything thats happenned on 9/11 - fuck osama bin laden! its definitely a bangin' track - maybe my single for 2001. check out www.gorillaz.com, and click on the jukebox button. its the second to last song. peace". i don't work there any longer though. i don't think the song was that terrible though

Phil, please tell me why you didn't kill either (1) yourself or (2) your boss when given that utterly humiliating task.

Five dollars an hour... I sold my soul for five dollars an hour. Though I managed to get some 13 year old girls interested in the Gorillaz after I posted on the N'Sync board that I read an interview where Justin Timberlake said the Gorillaz were his new favorite group.
