i realise stormy davies will be dressing me down for inattention momentarily!! and that chuck hugely loves "hocus pocus" (as who does not)

(actually it's a very club freaky trigger song also, i must get it to them)

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 26 February 2005 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

buy the live album. The pocus is even hokier on that version.

yeah, "Moving Waves" is cool.

for something a bit different, track down the "Focus con Proby" LP on Harvest, featuring the Focii and PJ Proby. Half stuff with Proby singing, half just Focus. I'm not sure who came up with the idea. Proby does not yodel any, which I find perplexing.

they still play "Hocus Pocus" at sports stadiums in the US! I'm not entirely clear as to why!

YODA: "Eurydice" on Moving Waves. More beautiful musio? None there is.

Joe (Joe), Saturday, 26 February 2005 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

YODA: Or "music", so too.

The parody of Focus as part of National Lampoon's "Art Rock Suite" is hilarious but you need to have been there in the '70s, smoking pot and listening to that stuff, to get the references.

this must be a contributing factor to my inability to keep a 27-yeaer-old girlfriend.

Dan Aloi (67Dano), Saturday, 26 February 2005 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

national lampoon and focus are part of a (not very long) continuum!!

also: parody is TOTALLY ALWAYS WHERE THE LOVE IS (w/o the love, the parody will stench of feeble envy) (cf zappa doin "disco")

"i am so obsessed with [x] i have taught myself carefully and insightfully to IMITATE it"

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 26 February 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Why does ILM get all Focus-ed out at this time of the night?

Ever try to get a room full of LA homo semi-hipsters to dance to "Hocus Pocus"? It can work if you play it right before last call. It goes well with "Little Green Bag", too.

"Hocus Pocus = GREATEST NOVELTY SONG EVER!!

The drums on that song are AMAZING.

yeah, "Moving Waves" is cool.

wo-hoo, i totally had the moving waves lp 30 years (or so) ago m'self, too.

mm, i have some four, or so, other focus lps somewhere still, i believe. 3 & live & in and out of focus & humb.concerto... and the ship of memories cd also.
i think what i loved best then, and to an extent like even now, were/are the "early music/ pre-baroque"-like-sounding rhythms and stuff.

"3" has slabs of freaked-out blooz rock and raunch being a two rekkid set. Must've made Mike Vernon very happy while producing it, parts sounding like Savoy Brown in the usual extended jam.

When he gets all rat-faced trying to hit that last high note whistling through his broken tooth and his eyes bug out...

Awesome.
