I have come to the conclusion that Mr BLUESKY by ELO might just be the best song of the past hundred years

i didn't remember hearing it before..
was it a single ?

paul mcgibb, Saturday, 26 February 2005 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It is easily the best Beatle song not recorded by the Beatles. Even right down to the subject matter, the one thing up there with boy-girl relationships in Beatle songs is the concept of the light/sun/sky.

Cunga (Cunga), Saturday, 26 February 2005 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

was this once a stevem favourite?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 26 February 2005 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

put perfectly to use by the eternal sunshine trailer, too :0

poortheatre (poortheatre), Saturday, 26 February 2005 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

that song is awesome--until it gets lame and suckASS at the end--it should be 2 minutes shorter.

please kill me.

rockaction (rockaction), Saturday, 26 February 2005 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a Dog Latin favourite! I was listening to it yesterday. It's got everything: Dwarf chants, robot voices, Penny Lane pianos! Incredible!

Jon - I take it you know that Eye is a big fan of this track?

dog latin (dog latin), Saturday, 26 February 2005 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Much, much better than "Mr WENDAL."

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Saturday, 26 February 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a "Diary of Horace Wimp" man, m'self.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Saturday, 26 February 2005 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

yeeeeeeuck

peepee (peepee), Saturday, 26 February 2005 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

didn't know the song. it's fun but a bit too much in the "let's make a patchwork of all the beatles arrangements in 5 min"... maybe even more than "seeds of love" !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Saturday, 26 February 2005 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

songs that are better: D'Ya, Turn to Stone, Strange Magic.

john'n'chicago, Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

What about "Telephone Line"? WHERE'S THE LOVE?

ffirehorse, Saturday, 26 February 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
Dog Latin, I guess he was a huge ELO fan in middle school.

PS - fuck you dullard, Calum

A homunculus of Darby Crash created for EVIL (ex machina), Monday, 2 May 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

even better is the Delgados cover of said song.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Monday, 2 May 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

I was just listening to this yesterday. It's awesome, yeah.

Sundar (sundar), Monday, 2 May 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

yep

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Monday, 2 May 2005 01:43 (twenty years ago)

i ADORE this song too -- delgados cover is really good but BETTER?! come on, man...

Michael J McGonigal (mike mcgonigal), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

it amuses me that this is now identified as "that song from the Eternal Sunshine trailer" when it was in a car commercial shortly before that. it's like the reverse of all those songs that were in Wes Anderson movies and then were used in commercials.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

I'm listening to it now and it is loads of fun.
I do like the Wimp track better tho.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

Great song, but "Wild West Hero" is their pinnacle.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 2 May 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

Mr. Blue Sky makes me oh so happy.

darin (darin), Monday, 2 May 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

It's good but I burned out on it in high school :(

even better is the Delgados cover of said song.

Is there a studio version of this? I think I just have a live in the radio station version. It doesn't even come close to the original, though.

W i l l (common_person), Monday, 2 May 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

Mr. Blue Sky reminds me of a certain Pretty Things song (or certain Pretty Things songs) but I can't pinpoint it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Something from Parachute?

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)
