Where is the apathy and disrespect for GASOLIN?

Can't even remember the US record label that issued Gasolin in the early 70's. Ads in rock mags proclaimed them Denmark's finest. One of their records, amusingly named, got an -A- from Christgau, according to this lore:

2 CD-box from 2002 consisting of 2 english language records: "The Last Jim" and "What a Lemon."

Theese recordings were also released in Denmark in Danish as Stakkels Jim and Gas 5. Robert Christgau gave a cut on the first record the character "A" in his book Christgaus Rockguide.
Despite good rewiews, Gasolin never got a breaktrough in the USA.

"What a Lemon" sold about 20.000 in USA. Dissapointing, compared to what Gasolin sold in Denmark.

And here it is ---

GASOLIN': Gasolin' (Epic) This wonderfully improbable record may signal a new movement--here comes the Copenhagen Sound. Would it were true. The LP compiles the best material from three Danish albums--which means not only released in Denmark but sung in the native language of that funky land, with translations provided in part by an Epic PR man who deserves a new job ... A - .

I've got a double live album which is quite enjoyable (played it last month, actually, and it has at least as much Slade as prog in it -- also, they use a different alphabt sometimes!); don't know if I ever heard the one Xgau writes about above. Didn't the frontman go on into some new wavish band that got reviewed affirmatively in NY Rocker once? Or maybe not.

No clue. Saw the "Gasolin" record when it came out in '78, never bought a copy or knew anyone who had. Absolutely no idea what they sounded like but if Slade-ish figures in there, you have my attention.

I've got a couple of their albums. "Mamma CuCu" from "Efter Endnu En Dag" (CBS) is sort of worth hearing. One of their album covers

appears to be by Art Frahm, which has to count for something.

Chuck, I taped you the Xgau pick, back in '87, but the tape probably didn't sound so hot. Great album, though, we'uns used to play it at parties in the 70s alla time.

Revive, 'cause this thread inspired me to get off my butt and put together the tribute to Efter Endnu En Dag that I've been planning for ages, complete w/mp3s:

It's a follow-up (in a way) to Queen's A Night At The Opera, if that helps any with the apathy!

kim larsen's drummer once drummed with sonny sharrock! and i know i saw larsen play danmark's smukkeste festival in skanderborg back in '95, and i think gasolin played too, but as this was my first danish orgy experience as an exchange student, i don't remember much more than that.

oh procul harum played and that was kinda awesome.

/nostalgic spazzout
