Or Jake Johannson, for that matter.

Don't forget Ray Jay Johnson.

i *LOVED* Poison when it came out, but the last one didn't do a whole lot for me - he got too caught up in the electroclash thingy which didn't suit him too well imho. i like his first two as well, but all three of the early ones have some pretty cringworthy moments. my favorite things he's ever done are 1) the track with Funkstorung called "I want some fun" and 2) his lovely cover of "Neon Lights".

Glad to see him mentioned though, i was starting to think he was largely ignored (though, this thread's responses don't really prove otherwise)

"I Want Some Fun" is epic, I lost sight of him after that though.

five months pass...
Revive, because the new single "Rush" is shimmering and tasty. In the pantheon of songs about rushing, it's better than Paula Abdul's "Rush rush" but maybe a hair behind Jane Wiedlin's "Rush Hour."

cover of 'Neon lights'? there it was?

his new album is great! but 'because of you' for 2nd single it's a worst choice

And I though it was about Jay Johnstone, baseball player and author of Temporary Insanity.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

Does he play the trombone?

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

No, he's sort of "chanson". First he was sort of trip-hoppy )but good, honestly) and then he sort of went electro (but not too much). He cites Chet Baker as a vocal influence and it shows.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Jay Jay Johanson.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

My guy has more in common with Chet Baker.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Your guy doesn't win anything with that hairdo.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

What? It's an awesome hairdo!

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

I loved him for a little while a few years ago but then I got over it.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 15 December 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

From the trip-hop-ish era, "Far Away" is proably a must-download. You'd like that, gaz.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 15 December 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

In my imaginary year-end music awards, he wins the "most audacious steal" for "Teachers" off his current Rush album, whose vocal melody is totally "inspired" by Phil Collins' "Easy Lover."

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Thursday, 15 December 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

five years pass...

"Whiskey" is sounding great on this cold December night. Plus, not to be shallow, but he really is beautiful.
