awww, i just don't like the PS. i quite like silver mount zion but could do without the singing bits.

zappi (joni), Sunday, 27 February 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Silver Mount Zion live = classic

sibsi (sibsi), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

Despite their public hatred of me, I still very much like this band, ESPECIALLY the vocal stuff. New one's queued up, paint me moderately psyched.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

Vocal stuff is fine, but man, efrim's voice is really bad.

Sean M (Sean M), Monday, 28 February 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Despite their public hatred of me

Dare I ask?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

I like efrim's voice, he sounds like a very disconsolate crow.

ned - sorry i was sure i mentioned this before - the constellation guys took out a quarter page ad in at least one magazine pretty much calling for my head. I believe the phrase "William F Buckley of Indie Rock" was bandied about. They quoted my reviews of thw shitty Le Tigre album and some other stuff. It was quite flattering.

five years pass...

This was the only specific ASMZ thread that turned up so...

They were totally sublime last night - they utterly have the magic still; movingly beautiful, rousing, funny... just wonderful.

This is the only ASMZ album I feel the need to listen to these days.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 20 March 2010 09:23 (fifteen years ago)

Great album. Probably my favourite of theirs lyrically. 'This is Our Punk Rock' really grew on me over the years too. I saw them live once, on the 'Horses in the Sky' tour. They played a then unreleased 'Blind Blind Blind' which was one of the most profoundly beautiful things I've witnessed. Still need to pick up the new LP. Shame on me.

the new Silver Mt Zion album is outstanding...

last time i saw them efrim and other guitarist broke two strings each during the set, and all the time spent replacing them was filled with actual laugh out loud banter and crowd interaction. coolest smartest funniest dudes of any band.

The lovely ladies of Silver Mt. Zion on Friday night. Hairy blokes to follow...

krakow, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 12:59 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, don't rush with those

anagram, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 13:04 (fifteen years ago)

I can't believe they're not coming to Vienna on this tour when they're playing practically every other city in Europe AND they played to a massive sold-out crowd last time they were here. Makes no sense at all, except in the weird world of bookers and promoters.

anagram, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 13:09 (fifteen years ago)

I sort of forgot about these guys after being thoroughly blown away by their first two albums, which remain among my all time favourites. For whatever reason I'd sort of thought they'd fallen off, what with poor reviews of their third album and all, So, Horses in the Sky and the one after that are supposed to be serious stuff, no? Sadly I can't see myself taking the effort to listening to it/getting it, but, well, we'll see.

They're getting better as they go along. Better = louder. Since it doesn't look like GYBE are going to get back together anytime soon Efrim is channelling his loud rock thing into SMZ now.

anagram, Thursday, 25 March 2010 16:06 (fifteen years ago)

there's no reason you should like their new stuff if you like older stuff, hugely different appeal. they've gone from post-rock imitating modern classical music to post-rock imitating black sabbath. i don't know, i like both.

facepalm death (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 25 March 2010 16:13 (fifteen years ago)

I have no adversion to loudness ( I actually would do well to have some more, actually) Hmmn, I'll download some stuff and keep an eye out for used CD's. They're playing here in like 2 months, and I've always wanted to see them live too, so...

this is my favourite late-period ASMZ stoner rock song. and i said this in another thread but absolutely incredible live band.

facepalm death (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 25 March 2010 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

That tune was an absolutely stunning highlight to an already monsterously good Glasgow set last week. Spine-tinglingly awesome.

krakow, Thursday, 25 March 2010 17:04 (fifteen years ago)

three years pass...

New rockumentary about SMZ, balancing life on the road with bringing up a kid and trying to make a living out of music. Looks really interesting, hope I get to see it.

one month passes...

The new record "Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything", is pretty stellar. I had been out of the loop with this band for so long, I didn't even know they used vocals now.
Either way, this album is really good imo.
