God, he comes off like a total stoner jackass.

OMG HE SMOKES TEH WEEDZ0R!

rentboy (rentboy), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

"And then they have this thing called mole pollo, which is like chicken with chocolate sauce"

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

man, you brits really need to get some mexican restaurants.

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

he seems sensible to me

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

the interviewer sure comes off like a jackass.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

all his interviews read like that. he tried really hard with that schtick. Brown doesn't come off so bad to me - and he closes by recommending "Best Dressed Chicken in Town"! that R0XX0Rs.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 28 February 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont think he comes across badly, particularly

ilkley lido (gareth), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

interviewwer putting down his car and all. Brown comes off as modest and down to earth. who shot the baba? i know who shot the baba...

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Brown came off okay, actually! He seems like a pleasant stoner dude. The interviewer seems like a bit of a dick, though.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 28 February 2005 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, the interviewer is the real jackass here.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 28 February 2005 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

trust me, he conducts every interview that way, like he's constantly trying to throw off the interview subject, rather than ask a real question. I think it's his way of acknowledging the inherently shitty format he's forced into by the paper (a one page Q&A for touring celebs)

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 28 February 2005 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you suppose Tabula Rasta there put all those miles on his Jeep before or after he noticed it was up on blocks?

Perfect, Monday, 28 February 2005 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

btw, here's as good a place as any to talk about how great his new single is, the UNKLE remix of "Time Is My Everything" is really terrific. can't stop listening. find myself humming it at work. etc

nice job, considering how bad the majority of his solo career has been imho

rentboy (rentboy), Monday, 28 February 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Before I even looked at the link, I knew who the interviewer was just by the description. Aidin Vaziri is a complete and total jackass who thinks the entertainment world is his own little MST3K theater, except that he's not as witty as a robot. Snarky putdowns are best dealt judiciously, not relentlessly, a lesson Aidin consistently fails to learn. I wonder why he went into entertainment journalism since there is nothing in the entertainment sphere he genuinely likes or respects.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 28 February 2005 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Admittedly, the interviewer seems intent on lowballing the whole discussion, but Ian Brown still sounds like a 16 year old stoner on his first trip to Amsterdam.

his face was burned off in a flaming crossbow accident (King Kobra), Monday, 28 February 2005 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Was it Aidin? Oh my. (Used to edit me every so often at Mean Street.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

haha it was indeed aidin, the greatest popstar interviewer working today bar none

hey, on the same note, I found a better interview with Ian in this month's Filter, and also a great interview with Mani.

Mani: "...I don't think anyone ever really sold out to coke. I know Ian's got a bee in his bonnet about John and his coke. But me and Ian Brown used to snort coke like it was going out of fashion."

Wow. That last one is one fucking pathetic interview.

his face was burned off in a flaming crossbow accident (King Kobra), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

There is the ad next to it, though, that notes:

"Making love shouldn't hurt.
Making love on a bed painful? There is an answer!"

So you see, this interview provides good.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, thanks for sharing. after reading the ryan adams interview it does seem like the interviewer is a bit of a twit.

gspm (gspm), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the new Ian Brown album somewhat, and he comes across as pleasant in the interview. However, he was on Conan O'Brien the other night and it was painful and embarrassing to listen to because he was so out of tune.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet it wasn't half as bad as this tune from a recent Ian Brown concert.

his face was burned off in a flaming crossbow accident (King Kobra), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

yikes

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 28 February 2005 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw him in NY over the weekend. I was expecting the worst but it was actually very, very good. I guess he's touring with the guitarist and bassist from Fools Gold. Played five Roses covers, looked fit, sang in tune, was diva-ish about the sound but otherwise nothing to let us down.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't see much wrong with those interviews, concise, mildly amusing and neither party really seemed to come off like a complete jackass.

Ben Dot (1977), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate to say it, but I've decided the new album is as boring as the last one.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Another spectacular Vaziri interview here (with Neil Tennant).
