ARE YOU KIDDING OR ARE YOU TEH SERIOUSE?

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

r u benonair there, donut?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, my question IS serious. you dont understand how obsessed i am with xanadu.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

he's kidding, unfortunately. we watched Xanadu along w/Can't Stop the Music and The Apple the other night and were batting this idea around.

I humbly submit that U.S.E. replace Daft Punk

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

the Apple would be so much better if the songs weren't total shit. Such a great concept, so horribly executed. Altho I do like movies that are ended by the appearance of God. "Whoops, God's here! Movie's over! Everybody go home!" classic.

(this movie gave me actual disco-fascist totalitarian society nightmares. we were forced to do jazzercise type stuff in glittery outfits at different times during the day. true story)

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 28 February 2005 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I was about to say, dammit, *I* made the Xanadu connection first with U.S.E. and donut cruelly casts aside my brilliant idea.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

don't mess with me like that! this movie actually sounded pretty awesome. but do you really think daft punk = ELO?

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Shakey's description also fits Can't Stop the Music to a friggin' T. the dialogue is offensively bad, and often just plain offensive.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Daft Punk made the best Xanadu connection by sampling ELO.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the dialogue is offensively bad, and often just plain offensive.

What are you talking about? Anyone who can swallow two Sno-Balls and a Ding-Dong shouldn't have any problem with pride.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

also, that horribly racist Stepin Fetchit in glitter boots character in the Apple = Chris Tucker in Fifth Element.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 28 February 2005 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if there's ever THE APPLE 2006, it's so fucking obvious that the BIM band should be played by Electric Six with a full choreography. And Dave Q pointed out that Bibi & Alphie should be played by the White Stripes.

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

wow I didn't think a movie could get any gay-er than the Apple, but I guess I was wrong.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 28 February 2005 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, jbr, the only thing we're missing are the captures of Brian Eno playing Lulu!

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

mein Gott

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

the only thing we're missing are the captures of Brian Eno playing Lulu!

Brian Eno? TIM CURRY MORE LIKE.

Cause she's a sweet transvestite...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

not the sno-ball one, the line about making up for the mistreatment of Felipe's ancestors in Roots

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

THAT one was just plain wrong, I freely agree.

I love the amount of blatant product placement in the whole thing. It's almost innocent.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

haha Cheerios!

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, Tim Curry played Lulu, but there's a picture of her boss on the wall at one point that is DEAD OTM Warm Jets cover Eno

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

rowr

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

also, there was as much Stockard Channing in Grease about Lulu as Curry (who none of us in the room named, and should've--maybe if Dave Q had arrived earlier he would've)

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Electric Six? Now that's offensive.
I still think Nick and Jessica as Alfie & Bibi.

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave Q. came after I left? Dammit. Would've liked to've met him.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Electric Six? Now that's offensive.

HAHA.. what better candidate for the BIM band, then? :)

I still think Nick and Jessica as Alfie & Bibi.

As long as it wasn't Mates of States.

I think the White Stripes would be best still, because then Meg White (when she became evil Bibi) would do a collaborative song with The Electric Six about drugs, put on lots of make up, and sneer "SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!".

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

America, the land of the brave
Is popping pills to keep up the pace

Or however it goes. The White Stripes comparison is mighty fine, but who plays Mr. Bim himself?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Christopher Walken, duh

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

And Eugene from Oxbow plays his assistant

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Eugene in action.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

anyway, if we really wanted to be offensive, we'd put M. Ward in the movie

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean Bibi & Alphie = Chan Marshall & M. Ward?

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Freaking out on stage, the UNIVERSAL MELODY!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, give me the RED TAPE!

"But what anybody hears about this?"

"Then you're dead... VERY dead!" *prances off*

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, I just said that to tweak Kate (she hates Electric Six, whom I like; I dislike M. Ward, whom she likes). we laughed about it over the phone.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

See, donut, and you wonder why I keep making bits from this film into sig files.

Well, if there's ever THE APPLE 2006, it's so fucking obvious that the BIM band should be played by Electric Six with a full choreography.

This is incorrect. The Electric Six will be too busy playing the part of the nü-Tubes in Xanadu 2006.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

i am still really upset xanadu 2006 is not happening.

oKAY WELL LOOK i CAN'T FIND THE xANADU THREAD i WANTED. iT'S THE ONE WHERE...dONUT AND mATOS PLAY A TRICK ON EVERYONE...I CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF IT NOW..
ANYWAY...

i JUST RENTED THIS RECENTLY BECAUSE i WANTED TO SEE IT AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE i WAS 9 YEARS OLD.

aND THE ROCK AND ROLL PART IS SO FUNNY - IT'S SO POST-PUNK - IT'S TRYING TO CAPTURE THAT MOMENT IN MUSICAL HISTORY WHEN THE ROCK BAND WITH THE GUY WHO LOOKS LIKE fEE WAYBILL FROM THE tUBES HAS A MARK OF MAKEUP ON HIS CHEEK, DIAGONAL LIKE AND HE SINGS "lOVER i WON'T TAKE A BACK SEAT TONIGHT/OOH OOH LOVER GETTING ON MY TWO FEET TONIGHT/"

aND IT'S SUCH A PERIOD PIECE IT REALLY IS. I MEAN SHIT THIS WAS BEFORE THERE WAS EVEN ANY BOY GEORGE. THEY WERE TRYING TO CAPTURE THE POST PUNK MOMENT, BUT THEY MISSED BY NOT HAVING ENOUGH SYNTHESIZERS. aND THE GUY IN THE MOVIE SAYS "OH YEAH SYNTHESIZERS, ROCK BAND, ETC." BUT THEY JUST MISSED IT. bARELY. cAUSE IT'S TOO ROCK AND ROLL. aND THIS WAS 1980 AND EVEN POST PUNKERS WERE VIRGINS, ETC.

I am not Ted Nugent (Bimble...), Monday, 11 September 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, when I was kid I was crazy about the soundtrack for this movie, all around. And I thought it was the best thing in the world when those music folks from the 40's came together with the modern sound of the rock band. Yeah, I thought that was the shit.

Hey, wasn't Cliff Richard in this fucking thing?

I am not Ted Nugent (Bimble...), Monday, 11 September 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)
