C/D - Pat Benatar, "Invisible"

I heard it at the office today and - WOW! It's even better than "Love is a Battlefield." What the fuck was Pat Benatar thinking in recording that faux hard-rock in the early '80s. Clearly her mission on earth was to combine New Wave synths with hopped-up drums and glam guitars, sorta like solo Stevie Nicks.

Do you know there is not one single thread devoted specifically to this woman in all of ILM until now? FOR SHAME!

Bimble... (Bimble...), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 02:58 (twenty years ago)

*blush

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

And I suspect more ILM'ers hum Pat than they do the Shins.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

Pat Benatar could change your life. By the way, do you mean "Invincible"?

Sara Sherr, Tuesday, 1 March 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

Yet another reason to blush.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

Seriously, I went looking for one just before you posted this, just for the hell of it, expecting at least one and...nothing but tiny TS threads that went nowhere. I was just really surprised, but hey, whatever. I guess she's not "cool" to like, that must be it.

xpost

I was worried he might have meant Invincible too which is unfortunate, as that is one song I really really do not want to hear again at all.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

Also, "We Belong" really isn't all that special.

But that Precious Time album...

Bimble... (Bimble...), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 03:08 (twenty years ago)

I did mean "Invincible," bimble. Blame my misspelling on my excitement at hearing my newly downloaded copy.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

Invincible *is* amazing. That operatic voice gets me every time! My personal favorite is Heartbreaker, off In The Heat Of The Night, and pretty much all of Crimes Of Passion. Can I give a nod to "Hell Is For Children"? "TELL GRANDMA YOU FELL OFF THE SWING." Too classic for words.

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

i'll put 'Invincible' and 'Love Is A Battlefield' very high on my list of classic hits. 'Heartbreaker' less so.

'In the Heat of the Night' vs 'Crimes of Passion'

imanegativecreepandimstoned, Tuesday, 1 March 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

"Invincible" was on the radio when I was involved in my first car crash. Tried to go through the windshield (I was in the passenger seat btw) but didn't quite make it.

Irony to thread.

Are we talking about the song from that film, "The Legend of Billie Jean"? Fuckin' VH1 Classic has a real throbbing hard-on for playing that video every damn chance it gets (while stacks of Killing Joke and Stranglers videos go forever unplayed).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

"Invincible"? Love it. Particularly those extra beats heading into the chorus. "We Belong"? Meh. "Love is a Battlefield"? Yuck.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

I think i saw the video once; it did not make me miss Killing Joke.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Hahahahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Pat Benatar's finest hour, of course, remains the UNSPEAKABLY RIDICULOUS vid for "Love is a Battlefield".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

"I'm young, Dad! I have the right to be a hooker!"

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

Rick M way OTM about the lead-in to the chorus.

Look, I like the Pat Benetar album "Precious Time" an awful lot. The one with "Fire & Ice" on it. It still sounds good today to me, even though it came out in oh god...1981?? I don't fuckin' remember. Have to look that up. But "Invincible" sucks arse, okay. That songs sucks arse.
