In Praise of Country Teasers, specifically the song "Please Stop Fucking Each Other"

Recently traded with a member of the band - always been a fan but only owned a few scattered things (altho I remember nearly wearing out that 10" from a few years back on my radio show in college) - totally underappreciated dudes, but this one song is really, really terrific - the time changes! The Fall-like surrealist / nonsense esoteria of the chorus and those crazy keyboards! And when the singer misses his cue on the second chorus and totally saves it by making it sound like it was done on purpose! Oh man...awesome

"The Prettiest Slave on the Barge" ("What do I need a woman for? I've got a) "Good Pair of Hands" ...Lots of great songs by this band-like entity, who I believe are no more.
Though Ben Wallers, the main guy, aka 'The Rebel' has a new 7" out called "Exciting New Venue For Soccer and the Execution of Women" which I just remembered, I HAVE TO GET.

man i do love them country teasers. "bitches fuck off" and "mosquito" are excellent. i also like the classic "let's have a shambles" for the line "thank you ma'am, i feel much better / give me your address, i'll write you a letter."

roger were you trading with robert? i have a teasers best-of that i made that's pretty much perfect. my favorites are "deaths" and "golden apples."

I love the teasers, I recently went through a week or so when that's just about all I listened to.

"Destroy All Human Life" is some sort of beautiful acheviment

Someone got really contemptuous of the fact that I'd put them in my country music top ten for 2004.

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

Yanc3y, that's a very good writeup (Leonard Cohen's art rock band, ha ha), but man, you gotta get your UK countries straight ("I can never sort out if they're British or Scottish"). That's kind of like saying I can't decide if someone's North American or Canadian!

David A. (Davant), Friday, 11 March 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

I happened to see them a few years ago opening for someone better. Can't imagine why my African-American homosexual friend sat that show out -- back then their big song was about killing the "all faggots and the niggers."

(Don't worry, I'm cool, I know they were just being ironical, etc. but they were still worse than the mediocre Australian emo band that preceded them and Chicago's favorite schizophrenic, who followed, after a 15-minute loop of someone saying "Wesley is a god!... Wesley is a god!...")

Ironic? On the level that GG Allin was ironic, maybe.
