!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

ESG+Optimo@Subclub=http://members.aon.at/frankenstein/images/zombie/exploding.jpg

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

hey jed, i didn't type all that out just for you to go cutting and pasting it willy nilly. :-)

stirmonster, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

i typed it all out again! ;D

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad I don't have to keep quiet about ESG anymore, but shit - Sunday (MY BIRTHDAY) looks like carnage.

Plus non-Triptychly there's JLC and Vitalic on the Friday. Why isn't every weekend this good?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

cos it's not yr birthday EVERY weekend!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

1900
LCD Soundsystem/Hot Chip/Optimo DJs The Tramway
Arab Strap/Mugison The Tron Theatre
Candi Staton/Nick Peacock The Renfrew Ferry

2100
Kenny Knotts/Mungo's Hi-Fi

22:00
Akufen/Brooks/Gianni Palazzo/Danny Sharkey The Liquid Lounge

2300
ESG/Twitch/Wilkes

So yeah, basically I'd absolutely love to see LCD Soundsystem, Candi Staton, Akufen and ESG at Optimo but... I can't, can I?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 00:59 (twenty years ago)

Decisions decisions. It's like being at Glastonbury but with much better choices and my bed.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

maybe the gruesome twosome™ can be persuaded to come up for that night too alba.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:01 (twenty years ago)

One of them has already promised it, after the debacle of the Blood Arm night.

What was the hame of that friend of yours I met at the Lady Sov gig that organises Triptych? He's done a fucking amazing job this year anyway.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

i know who one of the 2some is but who's the other one?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

the hame? you gonna pay him a visit?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

What is a hame? There should be a hame.

Have you not met Stacey, jed?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

it's a guy called paul fegan alba.

and jed, the gruesome twosome™ are the lovely lauren and stacey.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

it's glaswegian for home? not met either!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

You will.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking I'm going to have to skip LCD for Candi Staton.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

does anyone know if church of the open field is actually the brazilian band open field church??

flavio pessoa, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

Another reason why my ancestors should have just stayed put instead of getting on the giant boats to Canada.

Will M. (Will M.), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

for me the sheer joy of stuff being on at the tramway - ie within walking distance of my house, on the SOUTH FUCKING SIDE of glasgow - means the what-to-see decision is already made. hurrah for triptych!

last year was ace. i must admit, this line-up doesn't thrill me in quite the same way ... but that's entirely because it doesn't have wire and trans am in it again, heh. god damn, it still looks fantastic.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 08:54 (twenty years ago)

Bit disappointed they didn't get Jamie Lidell but it'll be nice to see The Fall again.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

good god aberdeen is so shit.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

: )

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

GRRRuesome ....... well - your just inviting trouble aren't you!

We'll leave our little miss goody footwear at home that weekend then - if you insist!

stacey, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Oh! Hi Stacey. Sorry I missed you last week.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

Hi Flavio

Yes, it's the same Church, with some diferences(friends from Glasgow and brazilian friends living in Glasgow, instead of the 20 members from the brazilian church), and with brazilian songs... and excelent guests doing leads in some cases... i can garantee that will be good fun!

Du, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Nop, sorry, I'm still bored. Except for the TVPs. Maybe. I dunno.

Soukesian, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

I can't see when Church of the Open Field are supposed to be playing.

Any other recommendations for things I might not have heard of?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

Anyone up for Stockhausen in a dark room?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

are you suggesting that we break into his hotel and kick the shit out of him?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

bugger stanton or lcd, what a choice, i guess cause ive seen lcd i might go for staton. although it might be worth while going through to edinburgh for lcd and akfun, and of course optimo djs.

ladyintheradiator (ladyinradiator), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

wishlist:

weds - Stockhausen

friday - LCD Sound System/Akufen/Optimo DJ/Brooks/Hot Chip in edinburgh
saturday - Rhythm & Sound/Paul St Hilaire/Jim Hutchison

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 3 March 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 3 March 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

sounds v. expensive! but yeh 'wishlist'.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 3 March 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
sooooooo...... what was good? reviews please.

zappi (joni), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

lcds in glasgow last night were mind-blowing. "beat connection" and "on repeat" in particular. it's rare i watch a band and think, fucking hell, i'd love to be up on stage with them, but they had that effect. vastly powerful: a juggernaut of rhythm.

apart from that i was very crap and only went to the bella union gig in edinburgh. the czars were exquisite. josh martinez wasn't.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

I see your LCDS juggernaut of rhythm and raise you ESG's.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 2 May 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

i twist.

then do the mashed potato.

and the boney maroney.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 2 May 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Get a room!

alext (alext), Monday, 2 May 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

get it up ye, ya bam. did you go see the LCD experience in edinburgh, then?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 2 May 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

The Fall's Edinburgh was postponed till 23/5 :-(.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

Karlehinz Stockhausen was most interesting!!!!!!! Especially in the "musique concrete" second half, when some bloke decided to add his own "found sound" by shouting "ACH THAT'S BOLLOX, GONNAE GIES A DECENT TUNE FER FUCKS SAKE!!!!", and then the "electroacoustic" sound of a chairs being scraped "modulated" through the sound of a bloke being forcibly ejected from the auditorium!!!!

Oh, and the LCD Soundsytem were really good, if a little short!!! (Less than an hour?!??!?!) And Hot Chip were not too bad, a bit like Paul Simon fronting an early 80s Depeche Mode!!!!!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

What exactly did Stockhausen do?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

x-post: hot chip were described to me as "like a really bad new order with runrig vocals". i decided to stay in the bar.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

x post.

the fall gig was cancelled because mark e refused to take to the stage until exactly 11pm and the gig had to be finished by 11.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

What exactly did Stockhausen do?
Erm, there's 3 possible answers to that!!!!!

1) (THE SHOUTY BLOKE) Nothing!!!!!!!!
2) (THE PIECES HE PLAYED) Wednesday Greeting and Wednesday Farewell from Lict!!!!!
3) (IN GENERAL) Sit in a chair in front of a big mixing desk, plonk on a few buttons on his laptop, and sit back and admire his work in it's octophonic swirlysound majesty!!!!!!!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

Excerpt from ultra-rockist review in Herald:

Stockhausen performed (if that term can be used for music that has no actual performance element, being entirely electronic)[...]

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Sit in a chair in front of a big mixing desk, plonk on a few buttons on his laptop, and sit back and admire his work in it's octophonic swirlysound majesty

And no-one admires Stockhausen's work than the big man himself!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

the fall gig was cancelled because mark e refused to take to the stage until exactly 11pm and the gig had to be finished by 11.

erm. such behaviour has a kind of exquisite pointlessness to it, really.
