RFI: Bahia Black- Fusion? Appropriation? Theft?

I'm relatively new here, and suspect this topic may have been done, but my googling wasn't too helpful, so here goes:

I was listening to Bahia Black's "Ritual Beating System" It reminded me of another jazz/world thing, Seck and Jones' "Sarala" (not quite as good as the former, I think.) I'm neither a jazz nor a world guy, so I'm interested in hearing recommendations on interesting collaborations by artists from different backgrounds/cultures).

Meant to say Bahia Back of course. The word fusion is slightly scary, but if it means anti-purist mixing and matching, then wonderful. Bahia has some fantasically hipshaking rhythms. About time they were experimented with and explored. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Re 'fusions' - if you listen to something without knowing what it is and you like it, then it's good!

Simon Reynolds wrote this piece some time ago about evil purists which articulated something I've thought for some time: (in a nutshell) fusion = experimentation, good / purism = dogmatic, bad.
