they were both doing the heavy noise rock thing. wish i still had Hate Songs in E Minor and Heroin Man so i could compare them. The Cherubs did a song called "Orange Julius" so that may give them the edge.

i can't remember the cherubs at all, so fudge tunnel. i remember that "hate songs" seemed really heinously fucked up to me, at the time.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Friday, 4 March 2005 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunno the Cherubs either! Can we vote Walkingseeds instead?

NickB (NickB), Friday, 4 March 2005 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark me down as another person who's never heard of the Cherubs. I play Creep Diets all the time, though. Alex Newport's current band, Theory Of Ruin, is also quite good, if not as totally noisy as FT.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

cherubs first album rules. dumbass misanthropis rubbery black flag / black sabbath / buttholes sleaze clown rock with curious helium vocalist. fudge tunnel ug no joy

bob snoom, Friday, 4 March 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

lawnmower deth!

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, i was just listening to fudge tunnel's sunshine of your love cover the other day on an old earache sampler i found in a box. sounded great. a lot of stuff sounds like that now.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i've never heard the cherubs either. i am an old lady drivers fan though. (aka - Old)

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Scott! Hi! Did you get my e-mail about Anti, perchance?

Never heard either FT or The Cs, unfortunately - where shd I start?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread is in danger of hijacked into a "what was your favorite earache label band that went almost nowhere" thread. filthy christians? spazztic blurr? intense degree?

old lady drivers were pretty cool, hard to believe two of the same guys responsible for "supermarket monstrosity" would come up with "things viral."

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

indeed! i saw them open up for the young gods once. great show. i don't think anyone at the show knew what to make of them.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

david, i did get your e-mail. did you give me your address? if you give me your address i will send you a cdr. you too, el sabor. didn't you want to hear anti? i can't remember. iwas gonna try and figure out how i could put some mp3s up on-line, but fuck it, i've got extra cdrs of his albums. just e-mail me.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I might have sent it w/ the e-mail, but I don't remember - I'll (re)send my address ASAP! Much obliged, Mr. S!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

this is a weird TS...cherubs sound so different than fudge tunnel.

THEY ARE BOTH FUCKIN AWESOME.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

lawnmower deth!

Oh hell yeah.

"WE'RE THE KIDS OF AMERICA!"

Fudge Tunnel I heard, the Cherubs I didn't.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Fudge Tunnel reminds me of my freshman year of college vs. Cherubs who remind me of my XGF = FUDGE TUNNEL

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

the cherubs were brilliant, never mind the fudgies - throw them in a pit with unsane... cherubs hop out picking their teeth with a matchstick 10mins later

bedoah, Friday, 4 March 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

fudge tunnel were definitely my favorite band for a while back then - those records STILL fucking rule

Lawnmower Deth's best song was "Satan's Trampoline"

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 4 March 2005 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

this is a weird TS...cherubs sound so different than fudge tunnel.

i guess youre right, but both of them are slow, heavy and damaged sounding 90s era. i seem to recall Fudge Tunnels second one album being a bit more melodic, maybe that's the one that's more similar to Cherubs. the singers still sound pretty different though.

Never heard either FT or The Cs, unfortunately - where shd I start?

FT = "Hate Songs in E Minor" / The Cs = "Heroin Man"

eman (eman), Saturday, 5 March 2005 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

actually on listening to samples of "heroin man" i'd forgotten that they were more mid-tempo than slow. unsane is a better comparison.

eman (eman), Saturday, 5 March 2005 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

unsane is a better comparison.

ddb (ddb), Saturday, 5 March 2005 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

this is lame. apparently there is now another band called cherubs
http://www.cherubs-hq.com/

and they seem to be mtv-friendly euro-wankers. i hope trance syndicate records sue so they have to change to "cherubs uk."

eighteen years pass...

i feel like fudge tunnel were robbed! they were the best friggin' grunge band. but i guess they were too heavy or something so people called them sludge or noise rock or doom or stoner. but they were the best grunge. what a band. creep diets is better than anything outside of nevermind in my humble AI opinion. that nailbomb album that alex newport made with max from sepultura is better than any white zombie album too. prong albums are better than any white zombie albums as well. i've been listening to a lot of prong lately.

so my favorite grunge bands would probably be: eyehategod/kyuss/unsane/fudge tunnel. that would be such a great tour. that's excluding nirvana who i do enjoy a great deal but they are nirvana they don't need anymore ink. i'm finally reading that azerrad nirvana book. got a nice copy for 50 cents.

earache was my sub pop i guess.

i like those two Only Living Witness albums. people don't really call them grunge but they should.

i'm still not big on Melvins though. I KNOW! but hey what can you do? i'd rather listen to any of a dozen or two AmRep or Touch & Go bands then Melvins. they always seem kinda corny to me. don't hit me! i'm speaking my truth!

scott seward, Friday, 2 February 2024 19:59 (two years ago)

can't believe that Decibel Magazine picked Breadwinner for their hall of fame album this month. didn't see that coming though i know the guys over there are very 90s post-hardcore. that album is only 20 minutes long. its cool though.

scott seward, Friday, 2 February 2024 20:01 (two years ago)

love Creep Diets

also love Primitive Origins by Prong but that's more of a hardcore record than their other stuff

have never heard anything by the Cherubs

Colonel Poo, Friday, 2 February 2024 20:05 (two years ago)

yeah, i never really listened to Cherubs.

Decibel had Hate Songs in their Hall of Fame. and October File. and Children of God. which is cool for a metal mag if you ask me.

scott seward, Friday, 2 February 2024 20:08 (two years ago)

they had Slint in their Hall of Fame! forgot that. those guys must have been Breadwinner fans.

scott seward, Friday, 2 February 2024 20:09 (two years ago)

this is a top grunger. as they say at the wigan casino.

that 3rd Fudge Tunnel album is so awesome. i feel like people don't even know it but i don't know a lot of people. so crunchy and loud. i love it to death.
