I'm just trying to get a general idea how many people here are in my neck of the woods...

Space Is the Place (Space Is the Place), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

i book shows. occasionally write (not a PROFESSIONAL). talk a lot of shit, etc.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Jersey City here. I work at the dive-iest dive bar/club I've ever seen. Beware of the bathrooms.

hstencil, for which venue(s) do you book shows?

cdwill, Friday, 4 March 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

newark. but I don't play music, I play post music. and I'm not really a person so much as bunch of hamburger meat smashed together. but I'm in newark.

David Allen (David Allen), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

siberia, maybe even more divey than your jc place. i'm sort of wary of promoting shows on ilm tho, for some reason.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

what's independent music?

shookout (shookout), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

anything not on an RIAA label, duh.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Siberia is MUCH better than Uncle Joe's. I don't think it's really all that dive-y. Haven't been there in awhile, though...

cdwill, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

haha dude, you don't even know. where do i begin?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Things didn't really work out with me and Independent Music after the whole Avril fiasco, but we try to stay friends.

nabiscothingy, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

but dude you're in a new band, nabisco!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

hstencil, do your toilets work? Ours don't.

See, it's not that bad.

cdwill, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

no, they don't really. one sort of does. one doesn't have a door.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

pls don't ask me about our "drainage" system.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

hstencil

how was last nights show?

b b, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Ours require *constant* plunging, which is, of course, the responsibility of yours truly. I've never had more fun, really.

Was just on the Siberia site, and it's pretty good. No calendar for March, though. Our owners refused to renew our site, so we've got a shitty MySpace profile and word of mouth. Really professional...

cdwill, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

it was great, musically. turnout kinda sucked but yasunao tone (sp?), former fluxus badass, was there! he's like a japanese elf, so cute.

i still don't have access to update the siberia site. grrrr.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Ha, Stencil, my "new band" even practiced the other day. For like thirty minutes. We have a verse now, it's pretty awesome. I think what I really need is just an unselfconscious pop singer to do karaoke-style frontperson duties for my computer.

nabiscothingy, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

anyone going to see evol tonight?

yeah i was told by a performer it went well, but sparsely...didnt hear about tone though..thaz cool

b b, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

which performer?

nabisco, i'm game.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

nick from ones

b b, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

You're hired! Work on your dance moves and your indie-schoolboy voice.

nabiscothingy, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

oh nick is a cool dude, i know daniel a bit better, but i like ones a lot. russ gave me their new cd last nite, can't wait to listen. they might have been my favorite thing actually (tho the laptop sets were better than i thot they might be).

nabisco: my dance moves = fabulous. and i'm not sure what you mean vocally but i can learn.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

oh the new cd is done issit...well...seems like someone owes me something...

well, if you go tonight ill see you there..as for now its time to run some erands

b b, Friday, 4 March 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

i can't make it tonight, i've been sick all week and should really stay in and recuperate. have fun tho!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

I'm in Hoboken and do some writing. Uncle Joe's is probably my favorite spot in J.C. Any of you people frequent Maxwell's or Louise and Jerry's in the Boken?

Shaun (shaun), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

(Whoah, Stencil, suddenly I can't tell if you're serious or not! I actually am looking for people of any sort with better voices than mine to just sing on various things I've done; if you're singing or know people who'd be interested, I'm always keen. I'll email a track or two your way.)

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

can i be one of your jiggling video hos?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

(i am serious. and i like to sing a lot. i am told i have a good voice but i don't really know for sure.)

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Wow, New Jersey is all over ILM. I worked in Hoboken this summer and it was amazing, despite it being a shitty (and admittedly, not music-related) job... I love that town.

i am nervous (cochere), Saturday, 5 March 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

Hey actually that reminds me... are there any Newark / Hoboken / Jersey City / etc. shows particularly worth going to between 3/16 and 3/28?

i am nervous (cochere), Saturday, 5 March 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

Nervous, what kind of stuff do you like? I'll post some recommendations for our upcoming shows at Uncle Joe's in JC...

cdwill, Saturday, 5 March 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

Pretty much anything, I'd say... my audioscrobbler page would probably give you a good idea, but I'm open to stuff that you don't see on there, or is along different lines.

i am nervous (cochere), Saturday, 5 March 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

sorry, Siberia is divier than Uncle Joe's. (although the last time I was at UJ's, I think the toilets work) Uncle Joe's is in a better neighborhood, too. And I got a free drink at Uncle Joe's which hasn't happened at Siberia... YET.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 5 March 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

Anyone in New York involved with gig promotion/know anyone who is?

I'm good friends with a quite excellent Britisher band called My Device who have, at various times, supported Babyshambles and the Ex-Models and are due to play with Johnny Foreigner in September.

They're heading to NYC for their first stateside show on October 3rd with one other provisionally arranged at the Knitting Factory in the same week; I was wondering if any New Yorker who liked the sound of them could help in any way to find them another gig or two to play a few days either side of that date?

They are lovely chaps and are happy to play anywhere within reasonable travelling distance. they're not looking to make oodles of cash (or any, in fact) so any offers likely to be warmly received. cheers.
