Just saw them on TV. The song with the chorus "..and I won't call you baby anymore."

At first it sounded like feckless sub-Weezer powertripe with impossibly inane lyrics.

But then the bridge was decent angular postpunk, that chorus is hella catchy, and the singer had some sassy moves. Sub LFTR PLLR maybe.

So I guess I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the album either sucked or rox0r3d. Maybe one of you knows?

plus they are Canadian which tips the scales (of probable okayness) in their favor somewhat.

are you talking about conan o'brien just now? i thought they were actually pretty terrible, kind of sub maroon-5. the lc thing is total curse, especially considering what an inane lyricist he is.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 5 March 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)

yeah, on Conan. The song quickly grew on me. The lyrics were trite, but in a kind of knowing (ironic) way, I couldn't tell if I was getting it or not. Basically I could imagine the rest of the band's output being (probably) awful or (possibly) good/great and I was curious what teh ILX massive thought.

this band flat out sucks. if this is cohen's son i'd maybe check in on what he's doing in 20 years. i'd rather listen to the wallflowers

I worked merch one night for them and some other band they opened for. Most of them are nice but the lead singer is a real ass.

I saw them play as an acoustic duo and, if I you ignore the sound, it felt like a lost Jimmy Fallon sketch from SNL. I wanted to laugh, but it was too quiet and there were too few people in the room.

Their next single is a ballad that will probably blow up.

if I you ignore the sound

Should be, "if I ignored the sound." Doy.

I saw that Conan perf too, and I thought the singer looked like a TV actor pretending to be a rock star. Trying to invent a "move" with that opening the jacket thing he did two or three times.

The band name sounds like what Low would have to change their name to if they signed to Death Row records.

i wish i had photoshop skills.

Aaron A., Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Sub LFTR PLLR maybe.

98% of all currently-operating rock bands are sub-LFTR PLLR (if by "sub" you mean "not as good as")

Ha! I bought their CD by accident, because I wasn't paying attention and thought it could be some crazy used Low CD I hadn't seen before. Oops. (I know that sounds stupid, but I buy a lot of used promos, so it isn't out of the ordinary to see an album I've never heard of.) Hasn't made much of an impression yet, though....
