Another case of my own work

Here is another case of my work. This one is more of an 80s synthpop effort, with the vocal fx the only obviously non-80s-sounding thing.

Will not put any more material on my Urört site in some weeks, and it will not be this song anyway, so I put it here instead:

I freely admit that this is astounding.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 March 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but too much focus on the rhythm and not enough on the melody;-)

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

Haha Geir this is great!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

It's a bit You Spin Me Round... isn't it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

Funny "You Spin Me Around" reference. Yes, you are right, although I never thought of it before. The funny thing is, I wrote this song already in the summer of 1985, at the heigh of that song's popularity. It certainly wasn't something I did on purpose (I hated "You Spin Me Around" at the time), but if may have been in the back of my mind. Luckily it's just the first part of the chorus ;)

DUDE, YOU SHOULD SIGN WITH ZYX!!!!

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

The lyrics are awesome!

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

Just listened to it once hours ago, and the chorus *still* bounces around my head. V catchy.

(haha you should have put "(from Norway)" at the end of the thread title)

OleM (OleM), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

haha!

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh my god, the bridge fade-out with the lyrics continuing.. Geir knows pop. *swoon*

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

The other thing - that drum beat is dead catchy. Geir knows rhythm!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

(haha you should have put "(from Norway)" at the end of the thread title)

Hopefully, the Lage Fosheim reference isn't as obvious with this one as with "What's Up With You". All the Monroes references I have got from people in Norway who has heard the material kind of suggests I may have chosen the wrong artist name...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

That second verse is very forward and bitter. Would make great controversy fodder once the single hit the charts.

donut debonair (donut), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)

No problem, as those people in Norway who disagree with the lyrics don't understand English anyway ;)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

like yr. other one i wish that the verse/chorus ratio was skewed more in the other direction. drums are indeed much more exciting tho. the little solo bit is lovely too. perhaps it should be closer to a 4 minute than five minute song?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

bravo, Geir!

Lingbertt, Saturday, 5 March 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

i like the ascending transition bit just before the choruses

PB, Sunday, 6 March 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

(nb: all comments made with the feeling that this is that close to signable/sellable material)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 6 March 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

Data 80 be sweatin'!

Sven Bastard (blueski), Sunday, 6 March 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

Sven Bastard (blueski), Sunday, 6 March 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

omg geir this is awesome! it's got so much rhythm!

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 6 March 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

I love the solo 3 minutes in.

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 6 March 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

hah! the chorus is just superpop material, the vocals shouldve been a little more vocoded as far as i'm concerned. good good stuff nonetheless

Rizz (Rizz), Sunday, 6 March 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

GEIR IS HUMAN AFTER ALL
