I've just fallen head over heels for these guys (this guy?) due to 'The record keeps spinning'. "Boy you know, you haven't changed a bit / you keep talking that same old..", best use of non-swearing since ever. Great 'broken record' loop. Not massively different from 'Last night..' but deserves just as much acclaim.

The video to 'Last night..' is beyond classic. Clear where Richard X ripped everything off from. Girls spinning and singing while Mr Indeep stands between them barely moving until it comes to his 'in the mix' speech. I was clapping for joy watching this, everyone please d/l it if you can.

'Buffalo Bill' ain't quite so good, 'When boys talk' is fine' but 'Music is my life (main pass mix) pretty much stinks. And that's all I know about them. Please give more info, c/d etc.

re: the 'Last night..' video. It's the sheer joy in the dancing and singing of the two girls that make it so amazing. That combined with the awful cardigans and moronic grins of all the ugly euro popkids sat on benches and dancing behind them. The part where the girls hold their mics out and the camera zooms up on the main guy for him to deliver his rap/speech is the funniest part of any music video, bar none.

I urge everyone and anyone to get hold of this video, I'll put it on Ssk (msg Ian SPACK) if necessary.

I think I really need to buy an album by these, JBR do any other tracks match up to 'Record..' and 'Last night..'?

Affectian (Affectian), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

yeah, actually. it's all real solid early '80s bassy discofunk.

i need to rescue my hard drive from a recently deceased computer and then i can get back on slsk again.

Oh, thank God, I thought this was yet another startrekman thread. Anyway "Last Night..." is a great tune. And away go troubles down the drain, indeed.

The second album was a huge let-down. One of the sharpest and most enigmatic drop-offs in memory. Only obvious difference: one of the female vocalists changed.

most of those cuts are either hampered by cloning attempts (the sub-Prince of "You Got to Rock It," for instance) or the kind of tacky saxophone soloing heard in too much mid-'80s pop.

I love this diss of sax solos (from AMG). I can't vouch for Indeep, but I do know that the sax solo in the middle of the 12-inch of Rick James' "Dance Wit' Me" (a track from Throwin' Down) is one of the finest things in "mid-'80s pop."

I agree that "Last Night ..... " is classic. Embarrassed to say that I don't think I've heard any other Indeep.

one month passes...
I finally got 'The Collection' and I've only listened to it a couple of times but I'm pretty disappointed. The only previously-unheard track that's any good is 'Slow down', and that's a slow yearning ballady track rather than a dancefloor killer. Still, it has 'The Record Keeps Spinning' and that's more than worth it.

JBR, which are the songs you liked off the debut? The tracklisting for my cd is:

Indeep - Last Night A DJ Saved My Life
Indeep - When Boys Talk
Indeep - Buffalo Bill
Indeep - The Night The Boy Learned How To Dance
Indeep - The Record Keeps Spinning
Indeep - 10 Reasons Why I Can't Be Free
Indeep - Girls Got Soul
Indeep - If You Want It
Indeep - You Got To Rock It
Indeep - I Got My Rights
Indeep - Pajama Party Time
Indeep - Love Is Like A Gun
Indeep - Slow Down
Indeep - Lipstick Politics
Indeep - There It Is
Indeep - The Rapper
Indeep - Telephone Ringing
Indeep - Screeching Tires
Indeep - Flushing Toilet
Indeep - When Boys Talk (Scratch Version)
Indeep - Buffalo Bill (Percussion)
Indeep - Dog Barks & Screams With Echo
Indeep - The Record Keeps Spinning (Bonus Beats)

What is the name of the girl in the red dress in this picture:

as I'm head-over-heels in love with her and her shoes and her dancing.
Apparently Reggie Magloire joined Technotronic and Rose Marie Ramsey disappeared off the face of the planet/google, but which is which?

I still watch the 'Last night..' video every day and this past month has been the greatest clubbing month of my life. This is not a coincidence.
