Assuming you meant Down on Town from Valley of Rain, you should check out that whole album. I just listened to "Remote" (I have the new one but haven't listened to it much) and it reminds me of the classic Giant Sand I used to love. Specifically earlier stuff like "The Love Songs" the comp "Giant Sandwich" and "Ramp".

I'm not sure what people think Giant Sand are supposed to sound like if they haven't heard much, it's really quite varied stuff, depending on the period.

If you are looking Gun Club-ish, anything before Center of the Universe (and some of that album)from 1992, should do fine...as well as Chore.

As for Calexico, I have and love about 12-15 Giant Sand albums including boots, but I've never been able to get into them...there ya go.
