Not sure if there are any fans here, but I think this guy is great. Former model, professional surfer, plays guitar despite an accident mangled hand he has a real twisted viewpoint of life. Drill A Hole In That Substrate and Tell Me What You See from last year I think is his best yet. Joe Henry production on it is perfect. His prior release No Such Place is pretty damn good too.

i really liked the first record (Wrong eyed jesus) at the time. the morcheeba production on the second record didn't quite do it for me.
keen to hear the new one.

I had the opposite reaction, I didn't care for Wrong Eyed Jesus and liked the production on the second one. Having said that Drill A Hole is his best one yet.

I LOVED the stuff he did with Q Burns Abstract Message on No Such Place. Incredible record. Haven't heard Drill A Hole yet -- now it's a must.

Thing about Drill A Hole is that 'static on the radio' eclipses any other track on there, it's so beautiful.

Wrong-Eyed Jesus is his best in my opinion, but then there are tracks live "Corvair" and "Static on the Radio" on the later albums that are just wonderful

three years pass...

Revive

Jim White has a new one out today a live mini album A Funny Little Cross to Bear. Has anyone heard it? His last one, Transnormal Skiperoo kinda flew under the radar, which is too bad because it is very good.

Here's my No Depression review of White's live EP.

fifteen years pass...

What a year for this guy! First proper solo record, a new Dirty Three record and a gorgeous new one with Marisa Anderson:

It's funny that this is the only Jim White thread, I think?

There are huge gems all of the the first three records but it already started to feel like diminishing returns by the third. Was there anything as good as "Christmas Day" or "Perfect Day to Chase Tornadoes" after "Substrate"?
