Taking sides: Philadelphia International vs. KC and the Sunshine Band

KC's arrangements, production etc., were the REAL origins of what is referred to in programmers' and laymans' terms as 'porno-funk', which many mistakenly believe to have been invented by Gert Wilden.

The truth of Miami bass revealed. I heard more TK productions growing up, so them by default in terms of nostalgia, but I think I'd need a really good collection of both their greatest efforts to judge.

H.W. Casey and Richard Finch wrote "Rock Your Baby", which is one of my favourite songs of all time, but I'm not a big fan of their K.C. and the Sunshine Band material. To be honest, I haven't heard a great deal of their stuff, but tracks such as "That's The Way I Like It" seem unsubtle and lightweight to me. I'm keen on a few other tracks on the T.K. label though. "Do What You Wanna Do" by T Connection is a very exciting record. I've also got a soft spot for "One Love" by Celi Bee and the Buzzy Bunch.

I'd say that Philadelphia International was a better label. Tracks such as "Back Stabbers", "The Love I Lost" and "Don't Leave Me This Way" are memorable songs with powerful performances and wonderful arrangements.

Bowie may have recorded Young Americans in Philly but Low's "Sound And Vision" IS "Rock Your Baby".

I don't know Philly International. To my knowledge. Can they beat "Boogie Shoes" and "Fantastic Voyage"?
